Diego Costa set for Atletico Madrid medical

Atletico Madrid have agreed a €60m (£53m) deal with Chelsea for Diego Costa and the striker will now undergo his medical with the Spanish side, reports AS.

Diego Simeone’s side have been locked in negotiations with Chelsea for the last three months in a bid to broker Costa’s return to the club and have finally made a breakthrough in talks.

Costa has spent the last three years with Chelsea but was told by head coach Antonio Conte at the start of the summer that he was no longer wanted at the club.

The 28-year-old has not returned to Chelsea in a bid to force through a move back to Atletico and will reportedly be officially announced as a Rojiblanco player in the coming days.

However, Atletico are currently serving a transfer ban and will not be able to register Costa to play until January, which means the Spain international would not have played competitively in over seven months by the time he can make his second debut for the club.

Costa is the eighth fastest Premier League player to reach 50 goals (85 games) and will leave England having won the league title in two of his three seasons at Chelsea.
