Liverpool will reward James Milner with a new contract after Saturday’s Champions League final, claims The Daily Telegraph.
Milner’s existing deal is not due to expire until the end of next season but he remains one of the club’s fittest players despite turning 33 earlier this year.
The former England international has been a revelation for Liverpool since joining from Manchester City on a free transfer in 2015.
Milner is one of the top earners at Liverpool but Jurgen Klopp’s side are ready to sanction an extension for the versatile midfielder.
Liverpool’s focus has been on the Premier League title race and Champions League this year but talks will accelerate after Saturday’s final.
The Merseysiders also want to prolong Joel Matip’s stay at Anfield after emerging as one of club’s best performers in the last few months.
Matip started the season as Liverpool’s fourth choice centre-back but is expected to partner Virgil van Dijk at the back in this weekend’s Champions League final.
Like Milner, the 27-year-old also has a year remaining on his current contract but Liverpool are keen to reward the towering centre-back for his consistent displays.
Only five players have made more appearances than Milner (516) in Premier League history, while only seven have registered more assists (Milner – 82).
