Walker primed for surprise new Manchester City deal

Manchester City have opened talks with Kyle Walker about prolonging his stay at the club, claims The Sun.

Walker still has three years left to run on his current £150,000-a-week contract and has often been identified as the weak point in City’s defence.

His positioning has often frustrated Pep Guardiola and there have been suggestions City want to sign a new right-back this summer.

City were briefly linked with Crystal Palace starlet Aaron Wan-Bissaka and are reportedly now close to prising Joao Cancelo away from Juventus.

The Premier League champions are ready to sell Danilo this summer and want to ensure there are no doubts about Walker’s future by handing him a new long-term deal.

Walker’s position for City could soon be under threat and he is also on course to lose his starting berth for England to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Only two outfielders featured in more minutes in the Premier League last season than Walker of all City players but he ranked 14th at the club in terms of WhoScored rating (6.96).
