Manchester Derby takes centre stage in Super Sunday's European action

Manchester City vs Manchester United

The last time Manchester City lost a home league game was against Manchester United. Jose Mourinho’s side came from 2-0 down to defeat City and delay their title celebrations. United were 16 points adrift of City prior to that April meeting and go into Sunday’s encounter at the Etihad already nine back on their fierce rivals after 11 games. After coming from behind to beat Juventus in midweek, United are fired up heading to the Etihad and should be boosted by Romelu Lukaku’s return on the bench.

Despite constant reports of distain in the United camp they have shown a remarkable resilience under Mourinho of late, coming from behind in each of their last three away matches to either salvage a point or a win. They tend to start matches extremely poorly and cannot afford that against a ruthless City side.

Guardiola’s men have been by far and away the best side in the Premier League this season. The defending champions boost the best offensive (33 goals scored) and defensive record (four goals conceded) in England’s top-tier this term. Even though United managed it last season, it’s unlikely they will benefit from another collapse this time around. Defeat on Sunday could be the final nail in the coffin for United’s title aspirations, even if we are only in November.

Still think United are capable of coming from behind to beat City, then you can get odds of 50/1 for City to be winning at half-time and United at full-time.

AC Milan vs Juventus

Juventus were served a reality check in midweek after relinquishing a 1-0 lead over Manchester United with four minutes of normal time remaining. It’s the first time Juventus have lost in any competition this season and now they head to Milan looking to avoid successive defeats for the first time since August 2015.

As for Milan, Gennaro Gattuso’s side have won five of their last six in Serie A. Alessio Romagnoli has bailed them out with two stoppage time winners in their last two league outings and they are unlikely to be so fortunate up against the defending champions.

Sunday’s encounter will also mark the first time Gonzalo Higuain faces Juventus since leaving them for Milan over the summer. The Argentina international was forced to leave Turin following Cristiano Ronaldo’s blockbuster arrival. Higuain faces a race against time to prove his fitness after missing their midweek draw with Real Betis through injury.

Ronaldo has obviously been the star of the league this season, noted by the fact he is the highest WhoScored rated player in Serie A this term (7.96). Higuain hasn’t done too badly at Milan, scoring five goals in nine appearances, but is yet to hit top stride. He will be desperate to prove Juventus wrong this weekend.

Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain

It’s fair to say that Thierry Henry’s start to life at Monaco has been nothing short of disastrous. The Frenchman has not won any of his five games in charge and Tuesday’s 4-0 defeat at home to minnows Club Bruges has plunged the club to a new low. Henry has not been helped by an incredible amount of injuries, nor has off-field distractions helped his cause. Heading into the international break, Henry may wish he stayed on as Belgium assistant manager.

Sunday is as daunting as it comes for Henry. They welcome a Paris Saint-Germain side that have won their first 11 games. Another victory for the Ligue 1 champions would be a record start to the season by any club in Europe’s top five leagues. Neymar and Mbappe have scored 20 league goals between them. In fact, Mbappe has scored one fewer (11) in Ligue 1 than his former club combined (12).

During Monaco’s stunning league-winning campaign in 2016, this fixture was at least competitive. Now, however, you really have to fear for Henry. PSG will score as many goals as they want; it’s hard to see a defence that shipped four times to Club Bruges having any say up against Neymar and Co.

Radamel Falcao is back for the hosts but now they have lost Youri Tielemans and Alexander Golovin to suspension and injury, respectively. Henry’s spell is about to get a whole lot worse.
