Premier League round-up: first WhoScored 10 rating of 2019/20 season awarded

Here we run through the WhoScored Man of the Match awards from Saturday’s Premier League action.

Arsenal 2-1 Burnley - Dani Ceballos (8.28 rating)

Dani Ceballos enjoyed a dream full Arsenal debut to help Unai Emery’s side overcome Burnley 2-1 at the Emirates in Saturday’s early kick-off. The Real Madrid loanee provided assists for both of Arsenal’s goals, two of four goalscoring chances he created. The 23-year-old also had three attempts on goal, had more touches than any other player on the pitch (97) and completed two tackles. He was withdrawn with seven minutes of normal time remaining to a standing ovation.

Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth - Ahmed El Mohamady (7.67 rating)

Aston Villa right-back Ahmed El Mohamady ended up on the losing side but it wasn’t for a lack of trying on his behalf. The 31-year-old registered five key passes and impressively completed 91.6% of his attempted passes against Bournemouth. El Mohamady was the only player to amass over 100 touches (105) at Villa Park, while completing three tackles and interceptions combined.

Brighton 1-1 West Ham - Manuel Lanzini (7.96 rating)

West Ham will be bitterly disappointed to have conceded four minutes after breaking the deadlock in their encounter with Brighton but they at least got their first point on the board, with Manuel Lanzini taking the star man award. The 26-year-old assisted Javier Hernandez’s goal, as well as carving out three more goalscoring chances. Lanzini also completed five dribbles, only two fewer than Brighton managed as a team.

Everton 1-0 Watford - Bernard (8.65 rating)

Everton came out on top in their clash with Watford courtesy of Bernard’s 10th-minute effort. The Brazilian turned in arguably his best display since joining Everton more than 12 months ago. Bernard registered three key passes, completed five dribbles and had two shots in total. Not only that, but the 26-year-old remarkably made more tackles than any other Everton player (4).

Norwich 3-1 Newcastle - Teemu Pukki (10.0 rating)

Teems Pukki is the second player, after Raheem Sterling, to net a hat-trick in the Premier League this season but the first to garner a perfect WhoScored 10 rating. Norwich bounced back from their opening day defeat to Liverpool in stunning fashion and now Pukki has four goals in two games. The 29-year-old sensationally hit the target with six of his seven attempts on goal and completed two dribbles.

Southampton 1-2 Liverpool - Sadio Mane (8.70 rating)

It was far from vintage Liverpool but Jurgen Klopp’s side did enough to ensure they start the season with successive victories. Southampton were the better side in the opening exchanges before former player Sadio Mane scored a sensational effort from just inside the box to break the deadlock. Mane hit the target with both of his efforts on goal and also assisted Liverpool’s second of the match, one of five key passes. The 27-year-old also completed more tackles than any other Liverpool player on display (3).

Manchester City 2-2 Tottenham - Kevin De Bruyne (8.56 rating)

For as long as Kevin De Bruyne stays fit, it's difficult to imagine any other side taking the Premier League title off Manchester City this season. Injuries ruined his campaign last term but the Belgium international looks keen to make up for lost time. De Bruyne registered two assists against Tottenham, notably picking up Raheem Sterling with a wonderful cross to the back post for City's opener. De Bruyne registered nine key passes in total, the most in a Premier League game this season.
