How to Make Profit in Buabook's Europa League Final Market

The moment of truth for both Liverpool and Sevilla is edging ever near, and with both sides failing to secure a return to Europe next season via a successful league finish, there’s a great deal at stake this Wednesday.

For the victors, a place in next season’s Champions League beckons. For the losers, only heartache. With Unai Emery’s men aiming to lift the title for an historic third season running and the Reds hoping to end their debut season under Jurgen Klopp on a high, it promises to be an exciting battle.

There is, however, a way to add even more meaning to the game from your own perspective. By signing up to Buabook - the first player trading market - you can buy and sell shares in those on show for real cash. Think that Liverpool will be among the goals again? Sell Sevilla defenders. Think Kevin Gameiro will find a way past Simon Mignolet? Put your money where your mouth is!

In this piece we will give you our tips for Wednesday’s showdown, including why we feel the latter suggestion with regards to Sevilla’s top marksman is not a smart idea!

First of all, when assessing this final it’s worth considering the setting, particularly as far as Liverpool are concerned. The game will be played at St. Jakub Park in Basel in front of less than 40,000 fans, only a ludicrously small portion of which will be made up of supporters of either side.

Given that Jurgen Klopp’s men have relied so heavily on the Anfield crowd in Europe this season, not least in the most recent outings against Dortmund and Villarreal, the atmosphere in midweek could have a big part to play. When playing away from home in the Europa League this season the Reds have won just once and scored a meagre 4 goals across 7 games.

Indeed, while their charismatic German manager has a wealth of attacking options to choose from, Liverpool actually owe much to their oft-maligned defence for making it this far, particularly in away games. The Merseyside’s have conceded just 4 times on the road in Europe this season and Dejan Lovren, who was something of a joke figure at the club this time last year, has been an important part of that success.

The Croatian ranks second for Liverpool in terms of clearances (50) in the Europa League, with each worth £0.02 in Buabook’s match market, and third for interceptions (21), with each worth £0.04. With Sevilla having struggled to get ahead in matches in recent months, leading at the interval just once in their last 13 outings, I’m tipping a tense and low scoring affair initially.

As a result I would buy shares in Lovren before kick-off for around £0.35 each, hoping he has a dominant start to the match. However, in such high-profile, important encounters, anything can happen when the game draws to a close. Indeed, if the Croatian’s value is high and you have the chance to cash out for a decent profit around the hour mark, I would be tempted to do so, wary of late chances at either end.

As far as Sevilla are concerned, my tip revolves around their leading scorer this season, with Kevin Gameiro having notched 24 goals across La Liga and European competition. Seven of said strikes have come since Unai Emery’s side dropped back into the Europa League after their group stage exit from the Champions League, but there’s a pattern to his goals that is very much worth considering.

Of his 24 goals this season, remarkably only 3 have been scored away from home. While this isn’t your traditional away game, with neither side able to call upon their home support, Gameiro will be unable to thrive off of the Sevilla crowd.

When factoring in Liverpool’s impressive defensive record away from home in Europe and the fact that this looks set to be a tight and potentially nervy affair early on, chances could be few and far between for the Frenchman. He, however, will no doubt be well backed in Buabook’s match market given his ability to find the net with such frequency when on top form, with buyers willing to trade at a high price as a result. I would exploit this fact, and if you can sell shares in Gameiro anywhere near the £0.80 mark I would jump at the chance.

While a goal (worth £1.00) would no doubt see your chances of making a profit all but disappear, Liverpool have not conceded more than once away from Anfield in Europe this season, so there is very little risk. If, however, the Frenchman failed to find the net it would see his value fall by £0.20 at full-time, meaning it would likely drop towards £0.00. Twenty shares in Gameiro at £0.80 would initially set you back a 20% margin of your overall stake (£3.20 in this instance) and if his value were to settle at £0.00 you would make a total return of £16.00.

As far as the neutrals are concerned on Wednesday night, they will want to see a high-scoring affair. In my opinion they could be in for a disappointment then, tipping the best money to be made in selling forwards in what will be a season-defining finale for both Liverpool and Sevilla.
