Man Utd stars feature in Euro 2024 qualifying team of the round
Manchester United and Tottenham fans will be pleased to see the Euro 2024 qualifying team of the round, with the Premier League pair represented in the XI following impressive showings by Sweden, Denmark, Scotland and Croatia. Elsewhere, Spain, Poland and Slovenia also have four players between them make the cut.
Dominik Livakovic (Croatia) - 7.62
Croatia eased to a 5-0 win over Latvia on Friday night as they dominated from the first minute to the last, but despite controlling proceedings, Dominik Livakovic still earned a WhoScored rating of 7.62. The 29-year-old made three saves in the victory to help guarantee the clean sheet and all the spoils.
Ryan Porteous (Scotland) - 8.68
The star man from Scotland's 3-0 win over Cyprus, Ryan Porteous scored the Tartan Army's second at the AEK Arena in a superb showing from Steve Clarke's men. The 24-year-old also chipped in with six tackles and one clearance to help return a WhoScored rating of 8.68.
The first of two Denmark representatives in the team of the round, Simon Kjaer was solid at the back as the Danish Dynamite eased to a 4-0 win over San Marino. While Christian Eriksen was the star of the show - more on him later - Kjaer was on hand to ensure the Denmark goal was rarely tested as the experienced centre-back won 12 aerial duels and made four tackles to land a WhoScored rating of 8.29.
Rounding off the backline is Poland centre-back Jan Bednarek. Robert Lewandowski's second half brace secured all three points for Poland, though Bednarek was solid in keeping the Faroe Islands offensive at bay. The 27-year-old won seven aerial duels and made three clearances in the 2-0 win, and found a teammate with 96.6% of his 88 attempted passes to cap a solid showing.
Dejan Kulusevski (Sweden) - 9.21
Dejan Kulusevski put in a player of the match showing as Sweden smashed Estonia 5-0. The 23-year-old had a direct hand in two of five goals, netting Sweden's second midway through the first half before turning provider for Robin Quaison with 15 minutes to play. Those came from respective returns of three shots and one key pass, while an additional four dribbles saw Kulusevski garner a WhoScored rating of 9.21.
Christian Eriksen (Denmark) - 9.92
The second Denmark player in the side, Christian Eriksen was excellent in Thursday's 4-0 thumping of San Marino. Eriksen registered two assists in the win, those coming from six key passes, and struck late on from one of four shots. What's more, the 31-year-old made three tackles to return a WhoScored rating of 9.92.
Scott McTominay (Scotland) - 8.66
It's an all-Manchester United midfield pairing in the team of the round as Scotland goal machine Scott McTominay joins Eriksen in the middle of the park. McTominay scored his sixth goal of Euro 2024 qualifying against Cyprus on Friday night, finding the back of the net with one of six shots, and turned provider for John McGinn on the half hour mark, that coming from one of two key passes, as the 26-year-old earned a WhoScored rating of 8.66.
The second Croatia representative in the XI, and second Tottenham player to make the cut, Ivan Perisic rounds off the midfield. The experienced winger provided two assists in the Vatreni's 5-0 win over Latvia, that brace coming from five key passes. With two dribbles and one tackle to his name, Perisic deserves his spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 8.65.
Spain were rampant on Friday night as they smashed Georgia 7-1. The victory will be best remembered for Lamine Yamal's exploits, the teenager becoming the youngest player to both appear and score for La Roja, but it was Alvaro Morata who took home the match ball. The 30-year-old bagged a hat-trick at the Boris Paichadze Stadium, finding a way past Giorgi Mamardashvili with three of five shots, while additional returns of one key pass and one tackle saw Morata return a perfect WhoScored 10 rating.
Benjamin Sesko (Slovenia) - 9.29
Joining Morata on the frontline is RB Leipzig and Slovenia forward Benjamin Sesko. The 20-year-old was directly involved in three of Slovenia's four goals in their 4-2 win over Northern Ireland, assisting twice. The brace of assists came from two key passes, while Sesko hit the back of the net with his only shot to yield a WhoScored rating of 9.29.
Andraz Sporar (Slovenia) - 9.03
Sesko's international teammate Andraz Sporar completes the team of the round after the 29-year-old bagged a brace against Northern Ireland. Sporar's two goals came from six shots and he was a menace for the Green and White Army backline having completed three dribbles to return a WhoScored rating of 9.03.
