Resurgent Chelsea ace debuts in latest Premier League form rankings
Manchester City made it 10 straight Premier League wins on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win away to Everton. The Toffees threatened to spoil the party but Pep Guardiola's side were comfortable throughout even when Richarlison bundled in an equaliser before half-time. From their last 10 matches alone, they would still have more points on the board than eight teams in the Premier League this season.
Given City's recent dominance, it's no surprise they are still a major presence in our up-to-date Premier League player form rankings. In fact, the Premier League leaders make up half of our top-10 but there are some notable new faces in the standings.
Before we pick out some of those newbies, a reminder of how it all works. As always, our power rankings are based on a six-game period, weighted chronologically with the most recent outing carrying greater significance and so on. Each player must have played in two of the last three and six of the last eight available Premier League matches for their side. Moreover, only league ratings are considered.
Ilkay Gundogan missed City's 3-1 win over Everton in midweek so has leapfrogged City team-mate Raheem Sterling after the later's performance. Not that it was a bad one, but after failing to directly contribute in a goal, instead picking up a yellow card, his form rating dipped enough for Gundogan to reclaim first. Gundogan has remarkably scored braces in back-to-back Premier League appearances and will be fit to face Arsenal this weekend.
A frequent name in the top-10, Emiliano Martinez after another highlight-reel performance against Brighton last weekend. He was made to work for his clean sheet, making nine saves to help a poor Aston Villa side to a 0-0 draw. In fact, Martinez has never made more saves in a single Premier League game in his career. The Villa ace has four clean sheets in his last six.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper narrowly edges City's Bernardo Silva for fifth spot. Silva has taken time to rediscover the form he showed in 2018/19 but looks back to his best for City once again. Silva was the WhoScored Man of the Match against Everton, with a direct hand in two of their three goals. Across his last six league appearances, Silva has scored or assisted four goals.
Two other notable climbers are Chelsea's Mateo Kovacic and Wolves' Pedro Neto. Kovacic underwhelmed under Frank Lampard but is a man re-born since Thomas Tuchel's arrival. Kovacic is actually Chelsea's highest WhoScored rated player under the new coach and he places seventh in our top-10.
Meanwhile, there hasn't been a lot to shout about for Wolves of late but Pedro Neto has at least been the one cause of excitement. He will almost certainly be the next player to leave the club in a big money transfer. Neto has garnered a WhoScored ratinga above 7.00 in each of his last four appearances and scored a superb winner against Southampton last weekend.
