Shootout hero Williams leads South Africa quintet in AFCON best XI
South Africa dominate the Africa Cup of Nations team of the round following their penalty shootout success over Cape Verde. DR Congo, Ivory Coast and Nigeria are also represented as we run through the quarter-final best XI.
Ronwen Williams (South Africa) - 9.32
Ronwen Williams picked up a deserved player of the round award for a superb display in South Africa's penalty shootout win over Cape Verde. Indeed, Williams saved four penalties to ensure Bafana Bafana's progression to the semi-finals to earn a WhoScored rating of 9.32.
Wilfried Singo (Ivory Coast) - 8.05
Having replaced Nicolas Pepe for 10-man Ivory Coast shortly before the break, Wilfried Singo impressed in defence for the host nation. The 23-year-old came off the bench to land the player of the match award, making four clearances, four tackles and winning four aerial duels on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.05.
Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo) - 7.62
The first of two DR Congo representatives, Chancel Mbemba scored the Leopards' equaliser on their way to a 3-1 quarter-final win. The 29-year-old struck with his only effort on goal, while eight clearances and three interceptions capped a solid display from the Marseille man.
Mothobi Mvala (South Africa) - 7.52
Rounding off the defence is the second of five South Africa representatives. Mothobi Mvala was key as Bafana Bafana progressed to the semi-finals as he made nine clearances, one tackle and one interception in what was the 29-year-old's best rated performance of AFCON so far.
Khuliso Mudau (South Africa) - 7.55
Occupying the spot on the right in the team of the round is South Africa's Khuliso Mudau. The 28-year-old returned a tackle success rate of 100% from five tackles, while an additional five clearances helped Mudau to a WhoScored rating of 7.55.
The first of two Nigeria players in the XI, Moses Simon provided the assist for Ademola Lookman's winner against Angola, that coming from one of two key passes. The 28-year-old also completed two dribbles and made one tackle to secure his spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 7.42.
Teboho Mokoena (South Africa) - 7.69
Anchoring the midfield in this XI is South Africa's Teboho Mokoena, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.69. The 27-year-old made two tackles, one interception and one clearance against Cape Verde and was unfortunate not to add an assist having made three key passes to book his spot in the side.
Seko Fofana (Ivory Coast) - 7.48
The second Ivory Coast player in the side, Seko Fofana provided the crucial assist for Oumar Diakite late winner against Mali on Saturday night. That assist came from one key pass, while three dribbles and two interceptions saw the 28-year-old land a WhoScored rating of 7.48.
Arthur Masuaku (DR Congo) - 7.83
Arthur Masuaku won the player of the match award as DR Congo beat Guinea 3-1 having returned a WhoScored rating of 7.83 in the victory. Masuaku scored the goal that put the result beyond doubt as DR Congo progressed to the semi-finals, hitting the back of the net with his only effort on goal.
Ademola Lookman (Nigeria) - 7.70
Ademola Lookman bagged his third goal of AFCON as Nigeria beat Angola 1-0 on Friday evening. The 26-year-old scored with his only effort in the narrow victory, and made two key passes and two tackles to land a WhoScored rating of 7.70.
Evidence Makgopa (South Africa) - 7.15
Partnering Lookman on the frontline is the fifth South Africa player in the side. Evidence Makgopa was a real handful for the Cape Verde backline as he won a total of nine aerial duels, fired off two shots and made one key pass to round off the AFCON team of the round.
