Record-breaking pair lead Tottenham quintet in Premier League Team of the Week

 

Tottenham romped to a 4-0 win at Leeds on Saturday and the north London outfit are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week with no fewer than five players featuring. Top-four chasing West Ham are also represented, as are Brentford, Newcastle and Southampton. 

 

David Raya (Brentford) - 8.05 

 

Brentford dropped closer to the relegation zone as they fell to a 2-0 loss to Newcastle on Saturday, though it would have been a lot worse had it not been for David Raya between the Bees sticks. The 26-year-old pulled off nine saves in the capital to feature in the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.05. 

 

Matt Doherty (Tottenham) - 8.87 

 

The first of five Tottenham players to make the team of the week, Matt Doherty scored his first Spurs goal of his career with just 10 minutes on the clock as he tucked Ryan Sessegnon's cross past Illan Meslier. Doherty then turned provider five minutes later for Dejan Kulusevski, those coming from respective returns of two shots and two key passes. 

 

Fabian Schar (Newcastle) - 8.40 

 

Fabian Schar is the first of two Newcastle representatives to feature in the best XI after a resolute display at Brentford. The Swiss centre-back is credited with the assist for Joe Willock's goal on the stroke of half time, that coming from his only key pass in the Magpies' 2-0 win, and he defended astutely, making seven clearances and one interception to make the XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.40. 

 

Ben Davies (Tottenham) - 7.98 

 

Joining Schar at the heart of the defence is Tottenham's Ben Davies, who returned a WhoScored rating of 7.98 on Saturday. The Welshman did well to work back and block a Stuart Dallas shot after Hugo Lloris was caught in possession, while three interceptions and two tackles capped a solid display from Davies. 

 

Kyle Walker-Peters (Southampton) - 8.48 

 

Kyle Walker-Peters earned his second successive WhoScored man of the match award as Southampton beat Norwich 2-0 on Friday night, with the Saints star returning a rating of 8.48. The 24-year-old got forward well, completing six dribbles, and was unfortunate not to contribute to a goal having managed three shots and two key passes on home turf. 

 

Dejan Kulusevski (Tottenham) - 8.45 

 

Dejan Kulusevski has quickly established himself as a fan favourite for Tottenham following his January arrival from Juventus. The young winger bagged Spurs' second on Saturday, beating Illan Meslier with one of four shots at Elland Road, and he was tidy on the ball, completing four dribbles and finding a teammate with 91.2% of his 34 passes to feature on the right with a WhoScored rating of 8.45.

Joelinton (Newcastle) - 8.42 

 

The WhoScored man of the match from Newcastle's 2-0 win at Brentford, Joelinton set the Magpies on their way to victory with his second league goal of the season at the Brentford Community Stadium. Joelinton hit the back of the net with one of two shots in west London and worked tirelessly of the ball to ensure the clean sheet, making four tackles and four clearances, to return a rating of 8.42. 

 

Oriol Romeu (Southampton) - 8.34 

 

Linking up with Joelinton in the middle of the park is Southampton's Oriol Romeu. Romeu bagged his first league goal of the season in Saints' 2-0 win over Norwich on Friday night, scoring with his only shot on goal against the Canaries, while the Spaniard put in a shift both on and off the ball. Indeed, the 30-year-old made two tackles and two interceptions, and found a teammate with 90.3% of his 72 attempted passes to help yield a WhoScored rating of 8.34. 

 

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.99 

 

The penultimate Tottenham player in the Premier League team of the week, Son Heung-Min scored his 10th league goal of the season in Spurs' 4-0 win at Leeds on Saturday. Son got in on the act at Elland Road with five minutes to go, netting past Illan Meslier with one of four shots in Yorkshire. An additional four successful dribbles contributed towards his inclusion in the side with a WhoScored rating of 8.99. 

 

Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 9.23 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 9.23, Harry Kane is our Premier League player of the week. Kane netted Tottenham's third midway through the first half, finding a way past Illan Meslier from a tight angle. He then turned provider for Son Heung-Min with five minutes to play, that the 37th league goal the pair have combined for, a Premier League record. Kane's goal and assist came from respective returns of two shots and four key passes to warrant his spot on the frontline. 

 

Michail Antonio (West Ham) - 7.66 

 

While Michail Antonio was unable to get on the scoresheet in West Ham's 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday, it wasn't for want of trying as he managed two shots. Antonio did, though, provide the assist for Tomas Soucek's second half winner, that coming from one of four key passes, while two aerial duels won, two tackles and two clearances helped secure a spot in attack with a WhoScored rating of 7.66.
