Mark Travers (Bournemouth) - 8.02
Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers stepped in for only his second league appearance of the season at Villa Park on Saturday, and may just have made a claim to keep the starting role going forward. Travers made an impressive seven saves to thwart the likes of Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran, contributing to what could turn out to be a crucial point for the Cherries.
Though it is yet another game without that elusive first win of the season, Gary O’Neil’s Wolves deserve credit for the way they fought back from two goals down to claim a late draw at Brighton. Wolves wing-back Nelson Semedo makes our XI after a solid showing, including one key pass, one successful dribble, six tackles and 12 clearances, contributing to a 7.97 WhoScored rating.
Trevoh Chalobah (Crystal Palace) - 7.51
One side who did pick up their first victory of the campaign was Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace, at home to Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea loanee Trevoh Chalobah was a standout at the back for the Eagles, making three tackles, seven clearances, six ball recoveries, and winning nine of the 10 duels he contested.
Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.62
Partnering Chalobah at the back is Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who headed the Reds level after 18 minutes at the Emirates on Sunday evening - his first league goal of the season. The 33-year-old also contributed defensively, as ever, with six clearances and seven duels won helping Liverpool to an important point against the Gunners.
Rayan Aït-Nouri (Wolves) - 7.90
Joining team-mate Semedo in our XI is Wolves wing-back partner Rayan Ait-Nouri, whose third league goal of the season after 88 minutes against Brighton on Saturday sparked hope of the late comeback they would eventually complete. Ait-Nouri found the net with his only attempt on goal, while he also managed four successful dribbles, two tackles and two ball recoveries, for a WhoScored rating of 7.90.
Ryan Yates (Nottingham Forest) - 7.85
Nottingham Forest’s fine start to the season continued on Friday evening, as they secured a 3-1 victory against Leicester. Midfielder Ryan Yates makes our XI having put the visitors ahead after 16 minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the penalty area. Yates also made a key pass, two tackles, four clearances and three ball recoveries, in a strong all-round showing.
Casemiro (Manchester United) - 8.35
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro followed up a solid performance against Brentford last weekend with another positive display against West Ham on Sunday. Though the visitors would ultimately fall to a late defeat, the Brazilian was on hand to head home an 81st-minute equaliser, make two key passes, one successful dribble, two tackles, seven clearances and nine ball recoveries.
Savinho (Manchester City) - 8.33
Fresh from a Team of the Week performance in the Champions League in midweek, Manchester City winger Savinho earns a place in our Premier League XI following an impressive performance against Southampton. The 20-year-old managed five key passes, six successful dribbles and 17 touches in the opposition box against the Saints, to land a WhoScored rating of 8.33.
The third Wolves representative in our best XI is attacking midfielder Matheus Cunha, the hero for the away side after his 93rd-minute equaliser at Brighton. Cunha’s late strike was one of five shots on goal, while he also made four key passes, three successful dribbles and five ball recoveries, for a WhoScored rating of 8.35.
Making just his third league start of the season, Chelsea winger Pedro Neto impressed in Sunday’s win over Newcastle, providing the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s opener, after being found by a sublime Cole Palmer pass. The Portugal international managed three key passes and three successful dribbles at Stamford Bridge, in a performance that should see him keep his place in Enzo Maresca’s starting XI.
Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) - 8.42
With a WhoScored rating of 8.42, Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood is our Player of the Week, following his brace in Friday’s 3-1 win over Leicester. For club and country, Wood has now scored in each of his last four matches, while his goals at the King Power Stadium brought his Premier League scoring tally to seven for the season, a figure only Erling Haaland and Bryan Mbeumo can better.
