Serie A Best XI: Atalanta dominate March team of the month

5. Josip Ilicic (Atalanta) - 7.65 rating 

Atalanta went through March unbeaten as they won three of four league matches. Josip Ilicic scored two and assisted one, with his goals and assists earning Atalanta an additional three points last month. Returns of 10 key passes and six successful dribbles helped pushed his WhoScored rating for March up to 7.65 as the 31-year-old impressed for the Serie A side. 

4. Dennis Praet (Sampdoria) - 7.70 rating 

Sampdoria lost just the once in March, that incidentally coming at the hands of Atalanta, but crucial wins over Spal, Sassuolo and AC Milan kept their European hopes alive. Dennis Praet was central to their efforts, with the Belgian netting once last month, that coming in their 5-3 win at Sassuolo. However, it was his all round midfield play that caught the eye as Praet made 11 tackles and six interceptions, while on the ball, he chipped in with seven key passes and 10 successful dribbles to return a WhoScored rating of 7.70. 

3. Ignacio Pussetto (Udinese) - 7.75 rating 

Udinese gave their chances of survival a necessary shot in the arm as they secured crucial wins over Bologna and Genoa in March. Defeats at Juventus and Napoli were to be expected, but it was another notable month for Ignacio Pussetto, whose WhoScored rating (7.75) was the third best of all Serie A players in March. The Argentine netted a vital goal in a man of the match display against Bologna and provided his fourth assist of the season in a 2-0 win over Genoa to help move clear of the drop zone. 

2. Alessio Cragno (Cagliari) - 7.80 rating 

Securing his spot between the sticks is Cagliari shotstopper Alessio Cragno, who came away from March with a WhoScored rating of 7.80. The 24-year-old picked up man of the match awards against Bologna and Chievo as he made more saves (20) than any other goalkeeper in Italy’s top tier last month. 

1. Alejandro Gomez (Atalanta) - 8.17 rating 

Top of the player ratings in Serie A in March is Atalanta star Alejandro Gomez, the second Atalanta player to make the cut. The Argentine was in sensational form last month as he scored one and assisted two, those coming from returns of 24 shots and 14 key passes, those both more than any other player in Serie A in March. On top of that, Gomez has won five WhoScored man of the match awards this season, three of those came last month, as the pint-sized creator returned a rating of 8.17.
