Even with the departures of experienced pair Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez, Manchester City should again land the Premier League title. Josko Gvardiol is an inspiring capture from RB Leipzig that tightens one of the best defences in the land, while compatriot Mateo Kovacic is a solid addition. They'll be run close again, though, and I feel Manchester United will be the ones to do so. Arsenal and Liverpool will complete the top-four.

A lack of European football will benefit Chelsea and Tottenham, just as Europa and Conference League duties may impact Newcastle, Aston Villa and Brighton. Burnley are perhaps the most likely of the three relegated sides to stay up, with Sheffield United and Luton joined by Wolves in dropping into the Championship.

There is currently very little to suggest that any side is capable of putting Manchester City under pressure enough to win the title so I can only see Pep lifting it for the fourth consecutive year. I think that Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd will complete the top four. There is no way that Chelsea can do anything but improve on last season and with their shrewd signings they can give the top four a good go, but I think they will ultimately fall short. Eddie Howe has done a fantastic job since taking over at Newcastle but the pressure of Europe is likely to have a toll on his Newcastle side and therefore I’m predicting then to finish sixth.

It’s a similar story for Villa. Although ive been impressed by their summer business, I have them just missing out on the top six, with Spurs in at eighth despite no European duties for Ange Postecoglou's side. I’m backing Bournemouth, Wolves and Sheffield United to make up the bottom three with not enough quality to avoid the drop. My most surprising selection is Luton Town to finish in 17th and maintain their Premier League status. They will frustrate sides defensively and will grind out results and are likely to benefit from the promotion bounce so 17th feels about right.

Charlie Fairbank

I think Manchester City will come under enormous pressure to retain their title, but having been able to withstand close run challenges from Liverpool and Arsenal in recent seasons, I’d be very surprised to see another name at the top of the table. I think Chelsea and Liverpool bounce back from uncharacteristic seasons to finish in the top four at Arsenal and Newcastle’s expense. The Blues have looked good in pre-season and sold major disappointments from last season. Liverpool will want to bounce back this year and with a rejuvenated midfield at Anfield, I think they’ll do so. Arsenal and Newcastle’s Champions League runs will catch up to their light squads, and they will struggle to play big games with the long trips over Europe every other week.

At the other end of the table, I think Wolves will be the latest non-promoted club to drop out the division. They have sold a fair amount of talent in their squad and have not had the opportunity to replace them, and they were already the lowest scorers in the division last season. Sheffield United and Luton will also likely follow the same fate. Luton’s shoe-string budget makes it very unlikely they’ll stay up, and a similar story for Sheffield United, but a better showing than their 2020/21 campaign, the last time they were in the top flight.
