Haaland outscores Chelsea to lead Premier League April team of the month

Manchester City won all five league matches in April as they maintained their push to secure the Premier League title. As such, the defending champions have three players make the Premier League team of the month, with Aston Villa, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Brentford, Manchester United, Brighton and Crystal Palace also represented.

Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) - 7.32

While not the Premier League's busiest goalkeeper in April, Emiliano Martinez was still regularly called upon to help Aston Villa last month as he made 21 saves across his seven outings. What's more, no goalkeeper kept more clean sheets than the Argentine (4) in England's top tier to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.32.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.39

Trent Alexander-Arnold looked back to his creative best in April as he provided six assists last month. For context, he's now provided eight assists in the 2022/23 campaign. The Reds star ranked seventh for key passes (14) in the Premier League last month and while Liverpool struggled defensively, Alexander-Arnold's attacking output saw him return a WhoScored rating of 7.39.

Chris Mepham (Bournemouth) - 7.38

Only Newcastle and Aston Villa collected more points than Bournemouth (15) in April, with the Cherries now all-but safe following impressive wins over Tottenham, Southampton, Leicester and Leeds. While the south coast side weren't defensively astute, Chris Mepham was so often in the right place at the right time to alleviate pressure on the Bournemouth goal, with 27 clearances the eighth most in the divivion in April.

Ethan Pinnock (Brentford) - 7.17

Another proactive centre-back partners Mepham at the back, with Ethan Pinnock doing enough to return a WhoScored rating of 7.17. The Brentford star ranked second for clearances (39) in the Premier League in April, and found the back of the net at the start of the month, to secure his place in the side.

Tyrell Malacia (Manchester United) - 7.07

Tyrell Malacia has found playing time hard to come by following his summer move to Manchester United, but he has proven a solid stand in at left-back where required, as noted by a WhoScored rating of 7.07 in April. United only conceded two goals in the Dutchman's four league outings, to contribute towards Malacia's inclusion.

Solly March (Brighton) - 7.74

Solly March continues to shine for Brighton, with the Seagulls star nailing down the right wing spot in this XI. March ranked fourth for clear-cut chances created (5) in the Premier League in April, while only Kieran Trippier (24) made more key passes (22) than the 28-year-old. With three assists to his name, the Brighton man warrants his place in the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.74.

Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 8.64

The first of three Manchester City representatives, Kevin De Bruyne is the Premier League player of the month for April. De Bruyne was directly involved in a goal in each of his four league outings, providing four assists and scroing three times, as he looked back to his best for the defending champions. The Belgian ranked second for clear-cut chances created (6) to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.64.

Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) - 7.94

Linking up with De Bruyne in the middle of the park is the first of two Crystal Palace representatives. Of the eight goals Eberechi Eze has scored in the Premier League this season, four were netted in April as the 24-year-old struck in wins over Leeds, Southampton and West Ham. Eze also completed more dribbles (22) than any other player to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 7.94.

Jack Grealish (Manchester City) - 7.87

Rounding off the midfield is the second Manchester City player in the side, with Jack Grealish once again showcasing his importance for the defending champions. The former Villa man was directly involved in four goals across his five appearances for City in April, scoring twice, as Grealish landed a WhoScored rating of 7.87.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 8.27

Leading the charge in the Premier League team of the month, Erling Haaland was superb for Manchester City in April having had a direct hand in eight goals across his four league outings, scoring six times. The Norwegian hitman is now level with Alan Shearer and Andy Cole for the most goals scored in a Premier League season and will surely break it this week.

Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace) - 7.63

Jordan Ayew has been directly involved in just six league goals this season, four of which came in April. Ayew scored twice last month, both against Leeds, and provided assists in crunch wins over Leicester and West Ham. In addition, only Eze completed more dribbles than the Eagles frontman (19) in April, as the Palace forward rounds off the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.63.
