Liverpool hero Phillips joined by three team-mates in Premier League best XI

The penultimate gameweek of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign saw a couple of shocks and one massive twist.

Manchester City blew a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 to Brighton, Manchester United were held 1-1 at home to Fulham in front of supporters for the first time in well over a year and Liverpool leapfrogged Leicester into fourth place with a 3-0 win away to Burnley.

Before we turn out attention to this season's finale on Sunday, first it's time to reveal our penultimate Premier League Team of the Week, starting from back to front.

Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool) - 8.98 rating

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson is officially on a scoring drought after failing to net against Burnley following his stunning winner against West Brom at the weekend. Liverpool instead needed their goalkeeper to keep Burnley out at the other end and the Brazilian more than did his job. Alisson made four saves to help Liverpool keep a clean sheet and won three aerial duels.

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 8.06 rating

Trent Alexander-Arnold is certainly doing his best to force his way back into the England squad for Euro 2020, finishing the season in his best form for Liverpool. Against Burnley, the 22-year-old had three shots, registered two key passes and impressively completed 93% of his attempted passes. Alexander-Arnold more than chipped in defensively with seven tackles and interceptions combined and four clearances.

Centre-back: Nat Phillips (Liverpool) - 9.50 rating

Nat Phillips has been a revelation for Liverpool this season and it's remarkable to think he was playing in the second-tier of German football last term. Phillips capped his superb run of form with his first goal for the club on Wednesday night and then made a vital clearance off the line to ensure Liverpool remained 2-0 up. The 24-year-old made nine clearances in total and completed three tackles to garner the highest WhoScored rating by a centre-back in a Premier League game this season.

Centre-back: Liam Cooper (Leeds) - 8.32 rating

Liam Cooper capped his return to the side following illness with his first WhoScored Man of the Match award since January in Leeds' 2-0 win away to Southampton on Tuesday. Cooper set a Premier League record for most interceptions in a Premier League game (8) this season, while also completing five tackles to help Leeds keep a clean sheet.

Left-back: Andy Robertson (Liverpool) - 8.69 rating

Andy Robertson registered two assists in Liverpool's 3-0 win over Burnley last night, as many as his previous 27 league appearances combined. The 27-year-old left-back also made seven clearances in a real solid defensive display in general from Liverpool. Robertson created four goalscoring chances in total, completed two dribbles and even fired off a shot of his own.

Nicolas Pepe (Arsenal) - 8.82 rating

Whisper it quietly, but Nicolas Pepe hasn't been all bad this season. He is often the brunt of supporter jokes but Pepe is now up to 19 goals and assists in 44 appearancs for Arsenal this season after his match-winning brace against Crystal Palace on Wednesday. One of Pepe's efforts was a wonderful individual effort, dribbling in from the right flank to score, and he completed four take-ons overall to go with an impressive pass success rate of 91.1%.

Central midfield: Joe Willock (Newcastle) - 8.56 rating

Joe Willock's bonkers scoring run continued in midweek as the Arsenal loanee scored the winner in Newcastle's 1-0 victory over Sheffield United. The 21-year-old has now scored in six straight Premier League appearances, becoming the youngest player in the competition's history to manage the feat. Willock also created two goalscoring chances for his team-mates and didn't misplace a pass all evening, completing all 23 attempted during his 85-minute performance.

Central midfield: Tomas Soucek (West Ham) - 8.77 rating

West Brom's opener was eventually taken away from Tomas Soucek as an own goal and awarded to Matheus Pereira, massively helping his rating here, as the West Ham midfielder later equalised for the Hammers. West Ham went on to win 3-1 in a massive boost for their ambition to qualify for the Europa League, with Soucek playing a massive part. Not just a threat in the opposition box with five shots and eight aerial duels won, but Soucek also completed eight tackles and interceptions combined - a personal record in a league game this season.

Left wing: Phil Foden (Manchester City) - 8.11 rating

Phil Foden's wonderful individual strike was eventually for nothing, as City blew a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Brighton, but it's at least another sign the 20-year-old is cementing a starting berth for England at Euro 2020. Foden even won two aerial duels against Brighton, as many as in his previous 11 league appearances combined. The City starlet completed three dribbles and also won three fouls to earn the WhoScored Man of the Match award.

Striker: Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle) - 8.82 rating

Newcastle will hope to have Allan Saint-Maximin available on a more regular basis next season because when he has at his best there are few more enjoyable to watch in the Premier League. The Frenchman was certainly at his dazzling best against Sheffield United on Wednesday, completing 15 dribbles in just 71 minutes. In fact, only on one occasion has that feat been bettered since we started receiving Opta data in 2009/10.

Striker: Richarlison (Everton) - 8.48 rating

Richarlison is now up to 10 goal involvements for the Premier League campaign after scoring the winner in Everton's 1-0 win over Wolves on Wednesday. The Brazilian had two attempts, registered as many key passes and completed twice as many dribbles. The 24-year-old even weighed in with two tackles and completed three clearances to help the Toffees to a much-needed home win in front of supporters.
