Manchester City trio lead the Premier League form rankings

Manchester City were our Premier League team of the month for September, landing a WhoScored rating of 7.35, and it’s no shock that they lead the way in the player form rankings too. Indeed, the top three turn out for the defending champions with Kevin De Bruyne the in-form player in the Premier League according to WhoScored’s unique rating system.

Those included must have played the last league match and started at least six of the last eight with De Bruyne’s weighted rating over his last six Premier League outings a fine 7.95. The Belgian, though, may be knocked out of the top 10 completely by this time next week. A groin injury forced De Bruyne to miss City’s Champions League meeting with Dinamo Zagreb and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be fit to feature against Wolves at the weekend.

There’s a chance, then, that teammate Raheem Sterling will leapfrog De Bruyne into top spot with his WhoScored rating over the last six league outings (7.77) second only to the latter in the form rankings. Rodri (7.75) makes up the podium spots as the Spaniard continues to impress following his arrival from Atletico Madrid.

Another shining in his debut Premier League season is Aston Villa’s John McGinn. The Scot rapidly established himself as a fan favourite following his signing from Hibs and has made the leap from Championship to Premier League with ease. His WhoScored rating of 7.68 is the fourth best over the last six Premier League games and is level with player of the week and Leicester star Wilfred Ndidi (7.68).

The Nigerian pips Foxes teammate Ricardo Pereira (7.64) into the top five, though there is a good opportunity for the Portuguese right-back to rise up the rankings if he can put in another solid shift from defence in Leicester’s looming trip to Liverpool. On the other side of the coin, Joel Matip (7.63) is keen on moving up the standings with the Reds star hot on the heels of Pereira.

West Ham pair Felipe Anderson (7.62) and Sebastien Haller (7.60) occupy eighth and ninth, respectively, as the Hammers’ club-record arrivals continue to prove their attacking credentials under Manuel Pellegrini. Tammy Abraham (7.56) rounds off the top 10 and while he failed to hit the back of the net against Brighton on Saturday, the Chelsea star still has seven league goals to his name, all of which have come in his last five outings.
