Brentford Season Preview: Key Player, Signing to Watch, Predicted Finish and Betting Tip

Brentford are next up in our 2024/25 Premier League season preview as we look back at their 2023/24 campaign, pick out the key player, the signing to watch, predict where they'll finish and make a betting tip via oddschecker. 

2023/24 Season Roundup 

Last season could have been one to forget for Brentford, but the Bees managed to beat the drop by 13 points in the end. A run of two wins in 18 at the midway part of the campaign heightened worries of a drop back into the Championship however three wins in the final six games ensured another Premier League campaign 

Key Player - Bryan Mbeumo 

Brentford's shocking dip came in the absence of Bryan Mbeumo. The Bees forward sustained an ankle injury in December and it wasn't until he returned in March that Brentford turned their fortunes back around. The west London side had a win percentage of just 15.4% in the 13 games he didn't feature in, that rising to 32% in the 25 games he played.  

Signing to Watch - Jens Cajuste 

Brentford have already been dealt a blow with news that summer addition Igor Thiago will miss the rest of the year. The Bees are yet to really delve into the market but the signing of Jens Cajuste boosts Thomas Frank's midfield options. The 24-year-old struggled for game time for Napoli last season, with the Italian side prepared to let Cajuste leave for the Gtech Community Stadium. He's a hard worker off the ball and a driving force in possession, so should prove a solid capture.

Betting tip 

With Igor Thiago absent until the turn of the year and Ivan Toney still linked with a move away, some at the club are wondering where the goals will come from next season. Provided Bryan Mbeumo can stay fit for the season, then the 24-year-old is good value to finish as their top scorer. Mbeumo averaged 0.4 goals per 90 for Brentford in 2023/24, ending the campaign with nine goals to his name.
