Alexander-Arnold joined by Man City quartet in Premier League team of the week

There were more twists and turns across the penultimate round of fixtures in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign. Aston Villa climbed out of the bottom three at Watford's expense with a shock 1-0 win over Arsenal, while a draw was enough for Manchester United at home to West Ham to move into the top four for the first time since September.  

Liverpool capped off gameweek 37 with a thrilling 5-3 victory over Chelsea at Anfield before an injured Jordan Henderson finally got his hands on the Premier League title. Here we reveal the best rated XI from the midweek action with just one more game to go in the 2019/20 season.

Goalkeeper

Tottenham ensured they will finish above Arsenal for the fourth straight season, albeit with help from their north London rivals, with a 3-0 victory over top-four hopefuls Leicester. Despite such a comprehensive scoreline, Jose Mourinho's side still required an in-form Hugo Lloris to get them over the line. Lloris made six saves to earn his clean sheet, with only Norwich's Tim Krul (7) making more across gameweek 37. The 33-year-old also successfully claimed two crosses to help garner a WhoScored rating of 8.28.

Defenders

Even with no supporters on hand at Anfield, Liverpool's players certainly ensured it was a party atmosphere in their 5-3 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night. Trent Alexander-Arnold was typically the star of the show, bending in an exquisite free-kick and whipping in a perfect cross for Roberto Firmino to score his first home league goal of the season.

Southampton put rivals Bournemouth on the brink of relegation with a 2-0 win away at Dean Court, with Jannik Vestergaard making the most of a rare start to impress. The towering centre-back ranked top across GW37 for both aerial duels won (14) and clearances made (17).

Everton put an end to Sheffield United's hopes of qualifying for Europe next season with a surprise 1-0 win at Bramall Lane. Michael Keane turned in a terrific display at the back for the Toffees, also in helping 18-year-old Jarrad Braithwaite through his full Premier League debut. Keane won 10 aerial duels and made 13 clearances to help Everton end a run of no clean sheets in five league games.

Rounding off the back four is Manchester City's Joao Cancelo, who was given a rare opportunity to impress out of position at left-back. The former Juventus defender did just that and offered a reminder of his potential ahead of next season. The 26-year-old ranked second for dribbles completed across GW37 (7) and also weighed in with five tackles and interceptions combined in City's 4-0 drubbing of Watford.

Midfielders

Lucas Moura is the second of three Tottenham representatives in our best rated XI after the Brazilian doubled his assist tally for the campaign at the weekend. Moura supplied both assists for Harry Kane's goals against Leicester and created one further goalscoring chance. The Brazilian also completed three dribbles, won two tackles and as many aerial duels.

Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri make up the central midfield pairing in the XI following a dominant display away to Watford on Tuesday. De Bruyne registered his 19th assist of the campaign in the victory, in addition to five further key passes, while Rodri made five tackles, won two aerial duels and completed 95.2% of his attempted passes in a thoroughly efficient display.

Rounding off the midfield four is another City player, Raheem Sterling. The England international is now enjoying his best ever Premier League campaign in front of goal after netting a brace against Watford, taking his tally to the season to 19. Even with a missed penalty, in which he slotted in the rebound, Sterling's rating was good enough to fend off any competition for the left-wing berth. Against Watford, Sterling hit the target with five of his six attempts.

Strikers

Burnley inflicted further misery on bottom side Norwich at the weekend with a 2-0 win at Carrow Road. Chris Wood notched his 13th league goal of the campaign and claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award in the process. Wood, scoring for the second straight game, also won six aerial duels and registered two key passes.

Concluding the XI is our Premier League player of the week, Harry Kane (9.12 rating). The Tottenham striker took his two goals against Leicester in expert fashion to give him an outside chance of reaching 20 for the campaign heading into the final weekend. Kane scored twice from four attempts to make it braces in back-to-back games for the England captain.
