Five from Man Utd join Lingard in Premier League team of the week

There are no prizes for guessing the dominant side in the midweek Premier League best XI. Manchester United tore Southampton to shreds on Tuesday night, landing a 9-0 win over their divisional rivals. League leaders Manchester City are also represented in the team of the midweek action following a 2-0 win at Burnley to extend their winning run to nine matches.

Robin Olsen (Everton) - 7.65

Robin Olsen made just his third league start for Everton at Leeds on Wednesday night and put in a solid shift between the sticks to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.65. The Swede made six saves in the 2-1 win to kick off the best XI from the midweek action.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United) - 8.86

Starting the Manchester United contingent following their 9-0 win over Southampton is right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The defender bagged his second league goal of the campaign in the midweek rout, hitting the back of the net with his only shot in the victory, while three interceptions and two tackles saw the United man land a WhoScored rating of 8.86.

Chris Basham (Sheffield United) - 7.95

All three of Sheffield United's league wins this season have come in their last five matches, with the midweek victory over West Brom perhaps the most important. In this relegation six-pointer, it was the Blades who came out on top with Chris Basham putting in a man of the match shift from defence. The centre-back provided the assist for Jayden Bogle's second half equaliser, that coming from one of two key passes. Five tackles and five clearances ensured the Blades earned a huge three points and Basham a WhoScored rating of 7.95.

Jonny Evans (Leicester) - 7.78

Partnering Basham at the heart of the defence is Leicester's Jonny Evans. The Foxes made amends for their defeat to Fulham earlier in the campaign by coming away from Craven Cottage with a 2-0 victory. James Maddison may have earned the plaudits for Leicester, but Evans was excellent at the heart of the defence as he made seven clearances and three interceptions to secure a WhoScored rating of 7.78.

Luke Shaw (Manchester United) - 8.49

Luke Shaw may have been taken off at the break in the win over Southampton, but the Manchester United star did enough to secure his place in the team of the week after a superb first half showing where he landed a WhoScored rating of 8.49. Shaw made five key passes during his 45 minutes on the pitch, a personal record in a Premier League campaign, while no player registered more assists (2) than the in-form United star in midweek.

Mason Greenwood (Manchester United) - 8.88

It's been an out of sorts season for Mason Greenwood, but he managed his first Premier League assist of the campaign against Southampton on Tuesday night. That assist came from one of two key passes and the youngster was more than willing to chance his luck at Old Trafford, mustering three shots. An additional three successful dribbles sees Greenwood make the best XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.88.

Five from Man Utd join Lingard in Premier League team of the week

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 10.0

Continuing the Manchester United theme, Bruno Fernandes is our player of the week having garnered a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in the 9-0 win over Southampton. The Portuguese star had a direct hand in three goals on Tuesday night, scoring one and assisting two from respective returns of six shots and five key passes. In another fine showing, the midweek demolition marked Fernandes' best rated Premier League performance as he became the second United player to earn a perfect 10 WhoScored rating in a league game in the post-Ferguson era.

Jesse Lingard (West Ham) - 8.98

Wednesday marked a dream debut for Jesse Lingard. The midfielder secured a loan move to West Ham at the end of January and he grabbed the chance to impress with both hands. Indeed, Lingard netted twice in West Ham's 3-1 win at Aston Villa, finding a way past Emiliano Martinez with two of six shots. Two key passes, two successful dribbles and a pass success rate of 91.1% sees Lingard partner Fernandes in the middle of the park with a WhoScored rating of 8.98.

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) - 8.20

Manchester City maintained their unstoppable form with a 2-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday night. City kept their three point gap above Manchester United with Raheem Sterling putting in a man of the match performance against the Clarets. Sterling bagged his seventh league goal of the campaign, as he beat Nick Pope with one of three shots. He was unfortunate not to grab an assist, too, having made two key passes, whild three successful dribbles contributed towards his inclusion in this team with a WhoScored rating of 8.20.

Anthony Martial (Manchester United) - 8.53

Anthony Martial needed only 45 minutes to double his Premier League tally for the season against Southampton. The Frenchman replaced Edinson Cavani at the interval in the victory over Saints and netted with two of his five shots on the night. Martial will use that as the perfect confidence boost ahead of the weekend's meeting with Everton as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.53.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) - 8.31

Speaking of Everton, Dominic Calvert-Lewin partners Martial in attack in the best XI. The England international ended a seven-game goalless run with his 12th goal of the campaign in Everton's 2-1 win at Leeds. Calvert-Lewin was responsible for five of Everton's 10 shots at Elland Road and he gave the Leeds backline a torrid evening, winning eight aerial duels, as the striker rounds off the team with a WhoScored rating of 8.31.
