European Team of the Season: Right-back - Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich)

 

Bayern Munich stuttered in their title defence, but secured glory on the final day of the campaign as they trounced Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1. The resounding victory saw Bayern finish two points clear of rivals Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table, a feat that seemed unlikely at the turn of the year. The win also marked Joshua Kimmich’s 13th league assist of the season. 

 

It was another fine campaign for the German at the Allianz Arena, with Kimmich’s 13 assists more than any other defender in Europe’s top five leagues. Five of those came for star striker Robert Lewandowski to score, that the joint-best assist-to-goalscorer combination in the Bundesliga, with the duo forming a fine attacking understanding.
