Leicester star soars up U21 form rankings as Sancho plummets
While there’s no change at the top of this week’s U21 player form rankings from Europe’s top five leagues there is significant movement elsewhere in the leaderboard, including three new faces in the latest top ten.
10. Richarlison (Everton) - Weighted rating 7.23*
Despite dropping two places this week Richarlison clings onto his spot in the top ten as Everton continued their renaissance under Marco Silva. The Toffees picked up a third successive win at the expense of Arsenal, with the Brazilian wayward with three shots before being substituted late on.
9. Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig) - Weighted rating 7.25*
Down five places this week as Leipzig’s defensive resolve was broken twice by Bayer Leverkusen, Konate and his teammates recovered in the second half to pick up another crucial three points.
8. Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) - Weighted rating 7.31*
Plummeting six places after a Klassiker to forget against Bayern, Sancho was powerless in preventing a heavy 5-0 defeat and was completely nullified by the champions, without a single shot or key pass to his name.
7. Merih Demiral (Sassuolo) - Weighted rating 7.33*
It’s been quite a breakthrough season for 21-year old centre-back Demiral, who earned a move to Serie A in January and has been a regular for both club and country since. The Turkey international scored twice in a 4-0 win over Chievo last week and produced four tackles and three interceptions to help earn an impressive point at Lazio.
6. Ismael Bennacer (Empoli) - Weighted rating 7.35*
Former Arsenal youngster Bennacer is enjoying an impressive first season in senior top-flight football having helped Empoli to promotion and registered two assists in a shock win over Napoli last week. The midfielder then completed five tackles and five dribbles in defeat at Udinese last time out.
5. Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace) - Weighted rating 7.37*
Up two places following Palace’s 1-0 win at Newcastle, Wan-Bissaka played a pivotal role yet again in what was a smash and grab victory for the Eagles. The right-back made two tackles, two interceptions and eight clearances to help keep the hosts at bay.
4. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - Weighted rating 7.39*
The only new qualifier this week having now started the minimum six of the last eight league matches possible in order to feature, Alexander-Arnold wasn’t at his best at Southampton but did make a telling contribution. The right-back registered the assist for Naby Keita’s equaliser on Friday night, which was his fourth in said six starts.
3. Leon Bailey (Bayer Leverkusen) - Weighted rating 7.39*
Just about retaining his spot in third this week, Bailey’s run of scoring in every other league game came to an end against Leipzig but he did create two chances and complete an impressive six dribbles.
2. Youri Tielemans (Leicester) - Weighted rating 7.43*
Fast becoming a fan favourite at the King Power Stadium, Leicester will be desperate to make Tielemans’ loan deal permanent in the summer but goals like the one scored at Huddersfield at the weekend will only serve to inflate his price tag. The Belgian has now had a direct hand in a goal in five of his last six league appearances (two goals, three assists).
1. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) - Weighted rating 7.80*
At risk of losing out altogether having been named on the bench at the weekend, Mbappe was called upon by PSG as they faced a potential shock defeat to Strasbourg. The striker didn’t score, and sees his rating drop significantly as a result, but did have three shots, create two chances and completed four dribbles in just 31 minutes in an eventual 2-2 draw.
QUALIFYING RULES
Only ratings taken from each player’s last six league matches are considered, weighted chronologically, with the most recent match carrying greater importance and so on. To qualify each player must have featured in their side’s last league game and started at least six of the last eight available.
