Liverpool starlet Curtis Jones makes Champions League Team of the Week
Here we run through the WhoScored Champions League Team of the Week from matchday two in the competition.
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) - 9.08 rating
The 22-year-old ensured his Champions League debut was one to remember as Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City 2-0 on Tuesday night. City were arguably the better team but PSG defended well and had Gianluigi Donnarumma to thank for ensuring they kept a clean sheet. Donnarumma made seven saves, particularly good with his feet to deny the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez at the near post.
Right-back: Aleksey Sutormin (Zenit) - 7.88 rating
After defending valiantly against Chelsea in their first game, Zenit went on the attack in midweek and ran out 4-0 winners of Malmoe. Aleksey Sutormin is one of three Zenit defenders in the back four of our best rated XI. The 27-year-old scored once from two shots on target and was successful with all four his attempted long balls.
Centre-back: Yaroslav Rakitskiy (Zenit) - 8.07 rating
In the team to stop goals rather than create them, Yaroslav Rakitskiy remarkably helped himsel to two assists in the rout over Malmoe on Wednesday. The 32-year-old was also successful with 11 of his 17 attempted long balls, while managing three shots of his own.
Centre-back: Lucas Verissimo (Benfica) - 8.01 rating
Benfica inflicted further misery on Barcelona with a 3-0 win on Wednesday night. Darwin Nunez did all the damage in attack but it is centre-back Lucas Verissimo that takes a spot in our best rated XI at centre-back. The 26-year-old made five tackles and inteceptions combined and made a crucial clearance off the line with the score only 1-0 to ensure Benfica kept a clean sheet.
Left-back: Douglas Santos (Zenit) - 8.35 rating
Saving the best Zenit defender until last, Douglas Santos was the WhoScored Man of the Match in their game with Malmoe. The 27-year-old registered one assist but created a further five goalscoring chances. He registered two shots and also chipped in with three tackles and interceptions combined.
Right wing: Mo Salah (Liverpool) - 8.34 rating
Liverpool benefitted from shoddy Porto defending but took full advantage as they ran out 5-1 winners away from home. Mo Salah helped himself to two goals in the rout, scoring from both of his attempts on goal. The 29-year-old also registered two key passes before coming off just after the hour mark.
Central midfield: Curtis Jones (Liverpool) - 8.75 rating
Curtis Jones turned in yet another eye-catching display for Liverpool and even claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award in midweek. Jones set up two of Liverpool's five goals and even hit the target with three of his four attempts. With three key passes in total and four dribbles completed, Jones is certainly taking advantage of Liverpool's current injuries in midfield.
Central midfield: Hans Vanaken (Club Bruges) - 8.43 rating
Club Bruges remarkably came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 away to RB Leipzig on Tuesday, with Hans Vanaken scoring the equaliser to put his side on the path to victory. The 29-year-old actually ran out the WhoScored Man of the Match in Germany. Vanaken hit the target with two of his four attempts, won four aerial duels and completed three dribbles. The Bruges midfielder also made four tackles and interceptions combined.
Left wing: Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich) - 9.69 rating
Leroy Sane has rediscovered his best form for Bayern Munich, helped by new manager Julian Nagelsmann restoring him to his best position on the left wing. Bayern ran out 5-0 winners over Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday, with Sane playing a direct hand two of the goals. Sane scored one and assisted another, while also being denied a second goal by the frame of the goal. The Germany international also completed seven dribbles to claim our Champions League player of the week award.
Striker: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 8.56 rating
Robert Lewandowski's long scoring streak for Bayern Munich was snapped at the weekend but he bounced back with a brace in their demolition job of Dynamo Kyiv on Wednesday. The Poland international had five shots in total and registered three key passes in another typical Lewandowski display.
Striker: Sebastien Haller (Ajax) - 8.10 rating
Sebastien Haller has taken to the Champions League like a duck to water with five goals in his first two matches in the competition. After scoring four in the last round, Haller scored once in Ajax's 2-0 home win over Besiktas on Tuesday. The former West Ham striker will be disappointed he didn't add more with six shots in total. There was more to Haller's performance than simply shooting, however, with three key passes registered.
