Man Utd dominate Premier League Team of the Week after Newcastle thrashing

 

After a 4-1 win at Newcastle on Saturday night, Manchester United are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week as four players from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side feature. There are two Everton representatives following their 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Saturday, and there is also space for two Tottenham stars as we look at the best XI from gameweek five... 

 

Nick Pope (Burnley) - 8.76 

 

Burnley earned their first point of the season at West Brom on Monday night and they have man of the match Nick Pope to thank for finally getting off the mark. The England international made six saves in a clean sheet attaining display at the Hawthorns with his performance in the 0-0 draw with the Baggies returning a WhoScored rating of 8.76. 

 

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United) - 8.00 

 

The first of four Manchester United players to make the cut, Aaron Wan-Bissaka marked his 50th appearance for the Red Devils with his first senior goal of his career. The right-back was unlucky not to grab an assist in the 4-1 win over Newcastle, too, as he made two key passes in the victory at St. James' Park. Two tackles and one interception saw Wan-Bissaka yield a WhoScored rating of 8.00 on Saturday night. 

 

Chris Basham (Sheffield United) - 8.01 

 

Like Burnley this week, Sheffield United also earned their first point of the season after their 1-1 draw with Fulham on Sunday. Chris Basham makes the team of the week on the back of a defensively sound showing against the Cottagers. While he couldn't deny Ademola Lookman from hitting the back of the net in Yorkshire, Basham still made six tackles and six interceptions to garner a WhoScored rating of 8.01. 

 

Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - 8.49 

 

Making the headlines for the wrong reasons lately, Harry Maguire put in a fine display at centre-back against Newcastle to make the Premier League team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 8.49. Maguire bagged his first league goal of the season and was imperious in the air throughout at St. James' Park, winning seven aerial duels. Four interceptions and three clearances contributed towards his inclusion in this XI. 

 

Lucas Digne (Everton) - 7.83 

 

The Merseyside Derby was overshadowed by VAR controversy and Virgil van Dijk's season-ending injury, but in the midst of the drama, Lucas Digne put in yet another solid display from left-back for Everton. The Frenchman registered his second Premier League assist of the season in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool, providing for in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin to power a header past Adrian, with that coming from one of three key passes. An additional seven clearances saw Digne come away from the clash with a WhoScored rating of 7.83. 

 

James Rodriguez (Everton) - 8.05 

 

Digne isn't the only Everton representative in the Premier League team of the week, with summer arrival James Rodriguez joining the France international in the XI. Rodriguez put in a man of the match showing in his first Merseyside Derby, providing the assist for Michael Keane in the first half, that his third of the season in England's top tier. That assist came from one of three key passes in the clash at Goodison Park, while three dribbles helped the Colombian land a WhoScored rating of 8.05.

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 9.63 

 

Bruno Fernandes may have missed a penalty in Manchester United's 4-1 win at Newcastle, his first since his Udinese days in 2016, but he made amends and then some to fire United ahead with four minutes to go. The Portuguese star then turned provider for Marcus Rashford in the dying embers at St. James' Park, with his goal and assist coming from respective returns of five shots and six key passes. Off the ball, Fernandes was impressive, too, making four tackles and three interceptions as the midfielder secured a WhoScored rating of 9.63. 

 

Ademola Lookman (Fulham) - 8.41 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 8.41, Ademola Lookman partners Fernandes in the middle of the park. It was some full debut for the youngster as he netted a superb opener at Bramall Lane, that goal coming from one of three shots. With three key passes and three successful dribbles to his name, it was a fine attacking showing from Lookman, who'll prove to be a great acquisition for Fulham in their bid to beat the drop. 

 

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.31 

 

Tottenham may have been unable to hold out for all three points, throwing away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with West Ham on Sunday, but the stalemate marked another quality showing from Son Heung-Min. The South Korean star put Spurs ahead with less than a minute on the clock and then turned provider for Harry Kane minutes later, with his goal coming from two shots and assist from three key passes as Son garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.31. 

 

Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 10.0 

 

Putting in his second perfect 10 performance of the season, Harry Kane is the Premier League player of the week. The Tottenham striker netted twice in the stalemate with West Ham, hitting the back of the net with two of six shots, and was unlucky not to have bagged a hat-trick having struck the woodwork with one of his efforts in the second half. Kane's assist came from one of two key passes as the striker put in yet another stunning attacking showing. 

 

Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) - 9.69 

 

Rounding off the team of the week is the final Manchester United representative. Pipping Bruno Fernandes to the man of the match award with a WhoScored rating of 9.69, Marcus Rashford had a direct hand in three of the four goals United scored at Newcastle and won the second half penalty that Fernandes missed. One of his seven shots hit the back of the net at St. James' Park, while two of his three key passes resulted in assists for Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka goals.
