Liverpool target Thiago among Bayern trio to sweep Champions League awards
With the Champions League drawing to a close on Sunday evening and Bayern claiming the title for a sixth time, landing the treble in the process, we recap the tournament in the end of season awards.
Covered here is the Player of the Tournament, Young Player of the Tournament, Golden Glove and Golden Boot winners, among other individual accolades.
Player of the Tournament (and Golden Boot Winner): Robert Lewandowski
A clear and deserving winner of the Player of the Tournament award, Robert Lewandowski returned a fine WhoScored rating of 9.03 across his 10 Champions League appearances. The Bayern hitman scored in nine of his 10 outings in the competition, failing only to net in the final having struck the post in the first half, as he landed the Golden Boot with 15 goals to his name, at least five more than his nearest competitor.
Lewandowski's 15 goals came from 52 shots, that more than any other player, and the Pole chipped in with an additional five assists, that the second most, with his 21 key passes the fifth best return in the Champions League this season. All in all, it was a memorable tournament for Lewandowski as he played a key role in Bayern's Champions League success.
Young Player of the Tournament: Alphonso Davies
Like Lewandowski and the Player of the Tournament award, Alphonso Davies was comfortably the best rated youngster in the Champions League this season with his WhoScored rating of 7.80 enough to secure the Young Player of the Tournament accolade. The 19-year-old completed more dribbles (26) than any other defender in the 2019/20 competition, that ranking sixth overall.
Davies registered three assists in total - only teammate Joshua Kimmich (4) returned more of defenders - with those coming from nine key passes in total. A Champions League winners' medal capped a stunning breakthrough season for the teenager, who was streaks ahead of any other young player for this award.
Golden Glove: Manuel Neuer
It's a clean sweep for Bayern Munich with Manuel Neuer's clean sheet attaining performance in the Bavarian powerhouse's 1-0 win over PSG on Sunday night ensuring the German pipped Keylor Navas to the Golden Glove. In all, Neuer kept a clean sheet in six of his 11 Champions League outings, including a shut out in the semi-final victory over Lyon to go with his final clean sheet.
Best Goalkeeper: Keylor Navas
While he was on the losing side in Sunday's final, Keylor Navas was vital as PSG booked their spot in this season's showpiece for the first time. The Costa Rican kept five clean sheets in his nine outings in the competition and returned a save success rate of 76.9% to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.04.
Best Defender: Alphonso Davies
Excelling from left-back, Alphonso Davies is WhoScored's best rated defender from the 2019/20 Champions League campaign. The Canadian burst forward from deep impressively as he ranked first for successful dribbles (26) of all defenders to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 7.80.
Best Midfielder: Thiago
The man of the match from the Champions League final, Thiago will be leaving Bayern on a high if he does elect to depart the German side this summer. The Spaniard yielded a fine WhoScored rating of 7.76 in the Champions League this season to return the best midfielder award.
Best Forward: Robert Lewandowski
With 15 goals and five assists to his name, Robert Lewandowski was far and away the best forward in the Champions League this season as he yielded a WhoScored rating of 9.03. As the winner of both the Player of the Tournament and the Golden Boot, there was only going to be one victor in this category.
