Gameweek One Recap

Portugal left it late to secure all three points in their opening Group F game. Hungary stood firm, but Raphael Guerreiro's deflected strike eventually broke their resolve. Cristiano Ronaldo added his first and Portugal's second from the spot three minutes from time and the Juventus man notched A Selecao's third in second half injury time. Germany were unable to make home advantage count against world champions France on Tuesday night. Mats Hummels' first half own goal saw Jogi Loew's side succumb to a 1-0 defeat in Munich and they'll be looking to make get back on track at the Allianz Arena here.

Team News

Pepe should keep his spot alongside Ruben Dias at the heart of the Portugal defence this evening. Renato Sanches and Andre Silva were second half introductions against Hungary, though only the former is tipped to come into the starting XI at the expense of William Carvalho.

Lukas Klostermann joins Jonas Hofmann on the sidelines, but neither were expected to start. Matthias Ginter came off injured in the second half against France and could be replaced by Emre Can in Germany's three-man defence, while Bayern pair Serge Gnabry and Leon Goretzka will be assessed, with the latter closer to a spot in the XI than the former. After lacking the cutting edge against France, Jogi Loew could bring Timo Werner and Leroy Sane into the side.

Portugal vs Germany: Euro 2020 team news and prediction

Only nine players registered double figures for both goals and assists in Europe's top five leagues last season, and two of them face off at the Allianz Arena this evening. Bruno Fernandes failed to follow up his brace against Israel in A Selecao's final game before Euro 2020 in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Hungary, but has proven a big player for the big occasion and will look to play his part in helping Portugal to victory over Germany.

Thomas Muller registered more assists (18) than any other player in Europe's top five leagues last season, but looked out of sorts against France on Tuesday night. Only Kai Havertz (5.85) earned a lower WhoScored rating than Muller (5.89) in the 1-0 loss at the Allianz and he needs to make amends against Portugal today.

Score Prediction: Portugal 1-0 Germany
