Wolves dribble machine Traore tops Saturday's Premier League performers
Manchester City lost further ground in the title race as they were held by Crystal Palace, while Tottenham came perilously close to victory at Vicarage Road. Arsenal, too, were forced to settle for a point, something Chelsea would have taken before kick off having fallen to a late defeat in Newcastle as we take a look at the Premier League's star performers from Saturday's games.
Watford 0-0 Tottenham - Serge Aurier
Tottenham came within millimetres of securing all three points at Watford in Saturday's early kick off as Erik Lamela's effort was cleared off the line by compatriot Ignacio Pussetto. Troy Deeney saw a penalty saved by Paulo Gazzaniga midway through the second half as a clean sheet helped Serge Aurier to a WhoScored rating of 7.78. The Ivorian chipped in with four dribbles, three tackles and two interceptions to contribute towards his star man award.
West Ham 1-1 Everton - Mason Holgate
Mason Holgate was an unlikely provider for Dominic Calvert-Lewin's equaliser on the stroke of half time in Everton's 1-1 draw at West Ham. That assist came from his sole key pass, while one of his seven clearances was off the line. Additionally, Holgate made four tackles and one interception to land the man of the match award with a WhoScored rating of 8.55.
Arsenal 1-1 Sheffield United - John Fleck
Saturday marked another disappointing Arsenal showing as they again threw away the lead, with John Fleck's late equaliser securing the Blades a point at the Emirates. The 28-year-old's goal came from two shots, and he could've had an assist, too, having provided one key pass. Off the ball, he excelled as he made four tackles and one interception to land a WhoScored rating of 8.08.
Brighton 1-1 Aston Villa - Bernardo
The spoils were shared in a crunch clash at the AMEX as Brighton were held to a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. Even as Villa found the back of the net on the south coast, Bernardo came away with the man of the match gong having returned a WhoScored rating of 7.89. The defender won six aerial duels in the stalemate and made five tackles as he proved tough to beat. He got forward well, too, having completed four dribbles in a commendable showing.
Manchester City 2-2 Crystal Palace - Cenk Tosun
Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace left the defending champions 13 points off league leaders Liverpool, with Cenk Tosun landing the man of the match award on his first Palace start following his arrival from Everton. The Turkish striker put the Eagles ahead at the Etihad Stadium, that goal coming from one of two shots, as five dribbles and four aerial duels won saw Cenk earn the man of the match award with a WhoScored rating of 8.24.
Norwich 1-0 Bournemouth - Emiliano Buendia
In a match best remembered for Steve Cook's 'save', Emiliano Buendia did enough to return his sixth WhoScored man of the match award of the season. The Argentine may have failed to have a direct hand in a goal against the Cherries, but he did everything in his power to score having mustered five shots, and provide an assist as he chipped in with four key passes, to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.86.
Southampton 2-3 Wolves - Adama Traore
The game of the day came from St. Mary's as Wolves came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 on their 39th competitive match of the season. Adama Traore was the star man with a WhoScored rating of 9.08 as he provided two second half assists for Pedro Neto and Raul Jimenez, those coming from two key passes. The Spaniard drove Wolves forward down the right as he completed eight dribbles in another excellent showing.
Newcastle 1-0 Chelsea - Federico Fernandez
Rounding off Saturday's star men from the Premier League, Isaac Hayden's late goal against Chelsea earned Newcastle a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Blues as the victory marked another solid performance from Federico Fernandez. The Argentine centre-back made two tackles, two interceptions and six clearances to return the star man award with a WhoScored rating of 7.84.
