Champions League round-up: Tottenham goalkeeper endures nightmare showing in PSV stalemate

After an opening week defeat at Real Madrid, Roma quickly bounced back from the disappointing loss at the Bernabeu and secured back-to-back victories against Viktoria Plzen and CSKA Moscow. The Serie A side were impressive in midweek as they defeated the latter with ruthless efficiency to keep pace with Real Madrid at the top of group G.

Indeed, they have Edin Dzeko to thank for another three key points, with the Bosnian in fine form on Tuesday night. No player has scored more goals than Dzeko (5) in the Champions League this season, two of which came in midweek. The Roma star hit the back of the net with two of his five shots and provided one assist from two key passes in a 3-0 win over CSKA. An additional three successful dribbles and four aerial duels won saw the 32-year-old land a WhoScored rating of 9.97, that the highest in gameweek three of the Champions League.

Former Manchester City teammate David Silva podiums in the best-rated standings following a superb individual display at Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. The silky Spaniard followed up his man of the match display at Hoffenheim with another star showing in City’s 3-0 win in Ukraine. Silva scored with one of his five shots on goal and could have easily had an assist having made five key passes. One successful dribble and a 92.6% pass success rate saw the 32-year-old land a WhoScored rating of 9.34 this week.

Rounding off the top three best-rated performers in the Champions League is PSG sensation Neymar. While the Brazilian was unable to have a direct hand in a goal in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Napoli, Neymar was still impressive as he completed more dribbles against the Italian outfit (12) than any other player has managed in a Champions League match this season, and only three fewer than Napoli have completed in the Champions League this term. A 92% pass success rate and four key passes ultimately contributed to a WhoScored rating of 9.07.

While PSG fought back to secure a point late on against Napoli, Tottenham were pegged back late on by PSV to sacrifice the win in Eindhoven, with Hugo Lloris’ red card not helping matters in the 2-2 draw. His WhoScored rating in the stalemate was a lowly 4.72, that not only the worst in gameweek three of the Champions League, but the lowest in a match in Europe's elite club competition this season.
