Bruno stars in Premier League Team of the Week dominated by Newcastle
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle dominate the Premier League team of the week for matchweek six after their record-breaking 8-0 victory over Sheffield United on Sunday. Also included in this week’s XI are players from Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham.
Sam Johnstone (Crystal Palace) - 7.91
Crystal Palace picked up their second clean sheet of the season at home to Fulham on Saturday, and the player of the match award was handed to Eagles stopper Sam Johnstone. The England international made a total of five saves at Selhurst Park to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.91.
Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United) - 9.58
Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier keeps his place in the Premier League team of the week after an outstanding performance in his side’s 8-0 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Trippier contributed to the victory with three assists, five key passes and two tackles, landing him an impressive WhoScored rating of 9.58.
James Tarkowski (Everton) - 8.59
Everton picked up their first Premier League win of the season at Brentford on Saturday and defender James Tarkowski played a crucial part in securing all three points. The 30-year-old set up Abdoulaye Doucoure for his side’s opener after just six minutes, before heading his side back in front in the second half.
Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool) - 8.67
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk returned to Premier League action in style, having served a two-match suspension for his red card at Newcastle. The Netherlands international made a total of five tackles and interceptions, five clearances, two key passes and provided the assist for Diogo Jota’s 85th minute finish to all but confirm victory. Manchester City’s Phil Foden registered his first Premier League goal of the season in the home victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes is the third Newcastle player to be included in this week’s team - and the highest rated. The 25-year-old shone in his side’s thrashing of Sheffield United on Sunday, assisting the sixth goal of the evening before finding the net himself for the seventh. Despite coming on as a 12th minute substitute, Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon posts the second highest WhoScored rating from the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, at 9.51. The former Everton man provided the assist for Sean Longstaff to open the scoring before finding the net himself in the second half. Callum Wilson (Newcastle United) - 8.29
31-year-old striker Callum Wilson continued his impressive form under Eddie Howe and scored for the third consecutive Premier League match on Sunday. The England international netted from one of five shots against Sheffield United and earns a WhoScored rating of 8.29.
Son Heung-min (Tottenham) - 8.12
Spurs captain Son Heung-min starred for the away side in Sunday’s North London Derby, scoring both goals as they came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw at the Emirates.
