Revealed: Champions Spain dominate Euro 2024 best rated performance rundown

 

As we continue to look back on Euro 2024, we’ve taken a look at the top 10 best rated individual performances at the tournament. 

 

Included in our top 10 are players from Turkiye, Georgia, Spain, Netherlands, England and Belgium. 

 

10. Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium vs Romania) - 8.76 

 

The 10th best rated performance at Euro 2024 was Kevin De Bruyne’s display in Belgium’s group stage victory over Romania. The Manchester City star scored to seal three points late on, while he also made three key passes, three successful dribbles and three accurate long balls, to return an 8.76 WhoScored rating. 

 

9. Fabian Ruiz (Spain vs Croatia) - 8.79 

 

Spain midfielder Fabian Ruiz, a feature in our Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament, boasts the ninth best rated display for his efforts in La Roja’s opening win over Croatia. The PSG man both scored and assisted in the 3-0 victory, while he also made one key pass, two successful dribbles and four accurate long balls. 

 

8. Unai Simon (Spain vs Croatia) - 8.83 

 

Number eight comes from the very same match, with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon earning the Player of the Match award following an inspired showing. The 28-year-old made a total of five saves, including a crucial stop to deny Bruno Petkovic from the penalty spot. 

 

7. Cody Gakpo (Netherlands vs Poland) - 8.88 

 

Cody Gakpo’s performance in the Netherlands’ tournament opener against Poland takes seventh. The Liverpool attacker netted his first of three goals at the competition, while he also made three key passes and completed all five of the dribbles he attempted. 

 

 

6. Bukayo Saka (England vs Switzerland) - 8.91 

 

The only England player to make the top 10 is Bukayo Saka, and his performance against Switzerland in the quarter-finals. The Arsenal man was by far the standout player on the pitch, as he tormented Swiss wing-back Michel Aebischer, completing all four of the dribbles he attempted while also making two key passes, before scoring a fine, late equaliser to take the game to extra time. 

 

5. Cody Gakpo (Netherlands vs Romania) - 9.02 

 

Returning to the Netherlands, with the only player to feature in our top 10 more than once in Cody Gakpo, whose scintillating showing in the round of 16 victory over Romania earned a WhoScored rating of 9.02. The 25-year-old both scored and assisted, made three key passes and two successful dribbles. 

 

4. Dani Olmo (Spain vs Germany) - 9.06 

 

Our Player of the Tournament, Dani Olmo, is in at fourth, for his impressive substitute performance against Germany in Spain’s quarter-final. The 26-year-old replaced the injured Pedri with just eight minutes on the clock, and would go on to score and assist for the eventual champions.

3. Nico Williams (Spain vs Georgia) - 9.09 

 

Joining teammate Olmo inside the top four is Spain winger Nico Williams, whose performances at Euro 2024 will have alerted the majority of Europe’s elite clubs, and none more so than his dominant display against Georgia in the round of 16. The 22-year-old scored, assisted, made four key passes, three successful dribbles and completed all 46 of the passes he attempted on the night, for a WhoScored rating of 9.09. 

 

2. Giorgi Mamardashvili (Georgia vs Czechia) - 9.25 

 

The second best rated performance at Euro 2024, and the best by any goalkeeper at the tournament, was Giorgi Mamardashvili’s remarkable showing in Georgia’s 1-1 draw with Czechia. The Valencia ‘keeper made a whopping 11 saves in total, single-handedly preventing at least three goals according to Opta’s Expected Goals model. 

 

1. Merih Demiral (Turkiye vs Austria) - 9.64 

 

The highest rated individual performance at Euro 2024 belongs to Turkiye defender Merih Demiral and his exceptional display in the round of 16 victory over Austria. The ex-Juventus man headed his nation in front inside one minute, before doubling their lead shortly before the hour mark. Defensively, the 26-year-old also made four blocks, three interceptions and a huge 17 clearances to help his side over the line.
