Manchester clubs dominate WhoScored Premier League team of the month

The start of the second international break of the campaign provides us with a good opportunity to take stock of what has happened in the Premier League over the last month. Given the fact Manchester City and Manchester United are both top of the league and locked on 19 points, it’s perhaps no surprise that they dominate the WhoScored.com Premier League Team of the Month for September.

City won all four of their league matches in September and scored 17 goals without conceding in that time. Sergio Aguero scored five goals in that run and leads the line in the best rated XI, while Raheem Sterling, Kevin de Bruyne and Kyle Walker also join the injured Argentina international in the team.

United failed to match the feats of their city rivals last month, but they did go unbeaten over their four games and record successive 4-0 wins at Old Trafford in that run. Perhaps an unlikely pairing, but Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young represent Jose Mourinho’s side in the best rated XI after both enjoyed thoroughly impressive months.

Tottenham and Liverpool are also represented in the XI, courtesy of Harry Kane and Philippe Coutinho, respectively. After an injury-hit start to the season, Coutinho has well and truly put speculation about a move to Barcelona behind him. The Brazil international finished as the WhoScored Man of the Match in both of his last two league outings, scoring from outside of the box in typical Coutinho fashion in both matches.

As for Kane, he finished as the WhoScored Man of the Match in three of his four league outings in September, finding the back of the net on six occasions in that time.

Arsenal duo Nacho Monreal and Petr Cech also feature in the best rated XI after the Gunners kept three clean sheets in a row during the month of September, while Brighton defender Shane Duffy completes the XI.
