WhoScored Tipster: Top 12/1 treble tip from Championship’s opening fixtures

Preston vs QPR - Match Preview

It’s been a difficult summer for QPR, who agreed to pay a fine to the EFL for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations and have struggled to recruit new players as a result. Steve McClaren returns to the club with a point to prove but his first test is a very difficult one, away to a Preston side with aspirations of a top six finish.

Alex Neil’s side just missed out last season and has a familiar look to it, with youngster Ryan Ledson - one to watch this season having arrived from Oxford - the only likely debutant. The Hoops were dismal on the road last season, winning just three of 23 matches, and are likely to get off to a losing start on Saturday.

Millwall vs Middlesbrough - Match Preview

The visitors are well fancied to gain automatic promotion this season having missed out via the play-offs last time around but Tony Pulis’ side may well need to rethink their approach in order to justify their short odds. Star man Adama Traore is moving closer to a move to Wolves and may not make the trip to The Den as a result and Boro looked short of ideas beyond the Spaniard’s sheer direct running threat last season.

Millwall, meanwhile, came so close to a play-off finish of their own in their first season back in the Championship last time around and the Lions have had a quiet summer. A match between two sides stronger at the back than they are going forwards could see the two cancel each other out, and it’s a result both managers would probably take in order to get a point on the board at the first time of asking.

Hull vs Aston Villa - Match Preview

Rounding off the opening gameweek on Monday night, it’s fair to say that neither Hull or Villa are entering the campaign in the shape that they would like. It’s been a tumultuous summer for the visitors in particular, who do now have new owners but have been unable to act in the transfer market until recently and are yet to replace the likes of John Terry and Robert Snodgrass.

The Tigers, meanwhile, have had to reassemble their entire defence, with a new goalkeeper and back four set to make their league debuts for the visit of Villa. Both managers may be a little cautious as a result, which is nothing new as far as Steve Bruce is concerned, and a low scoring affair could be on the cards. The away side have the better squad and could have the edge, but goals at both ends are unlikely, with none of the last six meetings between the two at the KCom Stadium seeing both teams score.
