Chelsea midfield star Kovacic heads Premier League team of the week
Here we run through the first Premier League Team of the Week of 2022, with midfield stars Joao Moutinho and Mateo Kovacic featuring.
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) - 7.57 rating
Made four saves as Tottenham edged out Watford 1-0 at Vicrage Road for his fourth clean sheet in six Premier League games.
Right-back: Stuart Dallas (Leeds) - 8.47 rating
Earned the WhoScored Man of the Match in Leeds' 3-1 win over Burnley after netting his first goal of the season. Also made eight tackles and interceptions combined.
Centre-back: Dan Burn (Brighton) - 8.04 rating
Helped Brighton overcome Everton in a five-goal thriller with a his first goal of the season in a 3-2 win. Burn also won five aerial duels and made 10 clearances.
Centre-back: Davinson Sanchez (Tottenham) - 7.87 rating
Scored a late winner for Tottenham in their 1-0 win away to Watford and helped Antonio Conte's side keep a clean sheet with three clearances and four aerials won.
Left-back: Marcos Alonso (Chelsea) - 7.91 rating
Was busy at both ends in Chelsea's frantic 2-2 draw with Liverpool with four shots and seven tackles and interceptions combined. Also won registered two key passes and completed three dribbles. In fact, 33% of the dribbles Alonso has completed in a Premier League game this season happened at the weekend (3/9).
Right wing: Anthony Gordon (Everton) - 8.66 rating
Scored his first ever Premier League goals, albeit in Everton's 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Sunday. Had five attempts in total and completed two dribbles.
Central midfield: Mateo Kovacic (Chelsea) - 8.58 rating
Scored a goal-of-the-season contender to spark Chelsea's fight back from 2-0 down to Liverpool to draw 2-2. Kovacic also completed 100% of his dribbles (4/4) and tackles (6/6) in a remarkable midfield showing.
Central midfield: Joao Moutinho (Wolves) - 8.41 rating
Has now scored more Premier League goals at Old Trafford (2) than Molinuex after arrowing in from outside the box to give Wolves their first win away to Manchester United since 1980. Controlled the midfield area with six tackles, a personal best in a Premier League game this season.
Left wing: Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton) - 8.76 rating
Our Premier League player of the week after his two-goal showing earned Brighton a 3-2 win over Everton. Mac Allister also registered two key passes and completed five tackles in an all-action display.
Striker: Neal Maupay (Brighton) - 7.85 rating
Set a personal best for dribbles completed in a Premier League match this season with five in Brighton's win away to Everton and also registered his first assist of the campaign.
Striker: Michail Antonio (West Ham) - 7.82 rating
Has now scored as many goals in his last three (2) as his previous 13 combined in the Premier League after netting in West Ham's 3-2 win away to Crystal Palace.
