Record breaker Alexander-Arnold ends season second in Premier League form rankings
In our final Premier League form rankings of the 2018/19 campaign it’s fitting that the WhoScored.com player of the season retains his spot at the top of the pile.
One Liverpool player - of four in total in the top ten - did narrow the gap, however, while there are four new faces from the previous week.
10. Ayoze Perez (Newcastle) - 7.55 weighted rating
Given that half of Perez’s 12-goal Premier League haul came in his final five appearances of the season, it’s little surprise the Spaniard is back on the leaderboard having netted the last of said strikes in a 4-0 win at Fulham.
9. Ryan Fraser (Bournemouth) - 7.55 weighted rating
While his performance in the bizarre game at Selhurst Park on Sunday wasn’t Fraser’s best, the Scot still ended the season as the league’s second best creator to Eden Hazard, with four of 14 assists - and one goal - coming in his last five appearances.
8. Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) - 7.59 weighted rating
A non-mover this week having helped Liverpool to a 21st clean sheet of the season, Van Dijk nearly ended a campaign in which he was voted as the PFA and Premier League player of the year with a fifth goal of the season, only to be denied by the woodwork.
7. Matt Ritchie (Newcastle) - 7.64 weighted rating
The second highest riser this week, up 13 places, has flourished since moving to left-back for Newcastle and registered two assists in the romp over Fulham, taking his tally to four in five games and eight for the season.
6. Ricardo Pereira (Leicester) - 7.69 weighted rating
The deserved winner of Leicester’s player of the year award, Pereira’s consistency in his first season in English football has been outstanding, putting in another excellent display at both ends against Chelsea with six interceptions and four dribbles.
5. Sadio Mane (Liverpool) - 7.76 weighted rating
Back onto the leaderboard having ended the season in style, as well as a share of the Golden Boot, Mane’s eventual 22-goal haul. The Senegalese international scored both goals as Liverpool beat Wolves, taking his tally to five in as many league appearances of late.
4. Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) - 7.76 weighted rating
This week’s biggest climber, Zaha leapt 23 places courtesy of a man of the match display against Bournemouth. While the Eagles flyer was not on the scoresheet he registered two assists having reached double figures for goals with strikes in back-to-back away trips to Arsenal and Cardiff beforehand.
3. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 7.91 weighted rating
Down one place this week, it was double disappointment for Salah as Liverpool not only failed to dethrone Manchester City but the Egyptian couldn’t keep his hold of the Golden Boot outright. Having failed to score against Wolves the 26-year-old had to make do with a share of the award having been two clear at the start of play.
2. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.94 weighted rating
Leapfrogging his Reds teammate into second spot, it truly was a remarkable end to the season for Alexander-Arnold. With assists in five of his last six league appearances, and six in total in that time, he doubled his tally for the campaign to end it with the most ever (12) by a defender in a single Premier League season. All at the age of 20!
1. Eden Hazard (Chelsea) - 8.06 weighted rating
He may have been rested for the trip to Leicester by a late cameo from Hazard is enough to see him retain top spot in the form rankings. In just 21 minutes on the pitch the Belgian still managed to complete four dribbles, but is it the last time the 28-year-old will ever grace our Premier League standings?
