Fernandes closes gap on Kane as Premier League's most in-form player
The thrills and spills of the international break carried over in to the Premier League's return over the weekend, with Jose Mourinho getting the better of Pep Guardiola and Liverpool demolishing former boss Brendan Rodgers to go level on points at the top of the table with Liverpool.
Arsenal somehow managed to come away from their game with Leeds with a 0-0 draw despite being pulled from pillar to post for most of the match, even reduced to 10 men after Nicolas Pepe picked up the award for wally of the week.
The weekend's action had some impact on our Premier League player form rankings, also. There are two new faces in the top 10, with one a big money signing qualifying for the first time this season.
Our Premier League form rankings are based on a six-game spread, weighted chronologically with the most recent outing carrying greater significance.
Moreover, in order to qualify in the first place they must have played two of the last three and six of the last eight matches available. Let's dive right in, starting in reverse order.
10) Timo Werner (Chelsea) - 7.45 form rating
Timo Werner's two-game scoring streak in the Premier League came to an end at the weekend but the Chelsea forward instead turned provider in their 2-0 win away to Newcastle. Werner has six goals and assists in his last six Premier League appearances but drops one place in our Premier League form guide with a rating change of -0.05 compared to the last gameweek.
Next Opponent: Tottenham (H)
9) Sadio Mane (Liverpool) - 7.48 form rating
Without a goal in four straight league matches, it's fair to say Sadio Mane is clinging on to his place in the top-10. Mane has not garnered a WhoScored rating less than 7.00 in any of his last six Premier League appearances but his barren run is clearly far from ideal. Mane still has three goal involvements in his last six but has nonetheless dropped one place to ninth in our latest player form rankings.
Next Opponent: Brighton (A)
8) Che Adams (Southampton) - 7.50 form rating
The aforementioned duo have been leapfrogged in our top 10 by Southampton striker Che Adams. The 24-year-old has played a direct hand in at least one goal in four of his last six appearances after registering the assist in Southampton's 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday night. Adams has played a direct hand in five goals in his last six appearances, finally coming good for the club after a difficult start last season.
Next Opponent: Manchester United (H)
7) Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) - 7.52 form rating
Finally with enough games under his belt to qualify, Ben Chilwell debuts in at number seven in our Premier League player form rankings. The Chelsea left-back has made a stunning start to life at Stamford Bridge with four goal contributions in his first six Premier League appearances for the club. Chilwell only managed six goals or assists in 27 league games for Leicester last season, so it's safe to say things are going well for the England international at his new club.
Next Opponent: Tottenham (H)
6) Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton) - 7.55 rating
After a brief fall down our rankings, Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back on the climb after his brace against Fulham at the weekend. The 23-year-old is the first player to 10 goals in the Premier League, with half of those coming in his last six appearances for the Toffees. Calvert-Lewin had dropped out of the top 10 completely before the international break but is back in at number 6.
Next Opponent: Leeds (H)
5) James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) - 7.60 form rating
Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is still playing above his seasonal WhoScored rating but has dropped one place in our form rankings from last time out. The 26-year-old, who skipped the international break through injury, has played a direct hand in four goals in his last six Premier League appearances, though is without a goal or an assist in each of his last two leading to a natural drop.
4) Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) - 7.72 form rating
Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has dropped one place in our Premier League form rankings after drawing a blank in their 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the weekend. Watkins has still managed seven goals and assists in his last six appearances but four of those fell in his sixth game (vs Liverpool). With that game no longer counting in our form guide after the next gameweek, Watkins is set to tumble down our standings unless he flourishes away to West Ham on Monday.
Next Opponent: West Ham (A)
3) Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 7.79 form rating
Like his Aston Villa team-mate, Jack Grealish has dropped a place in our form rankings following defeat to Brighton on Saturday. The Villa captain is the man of the moment for club and country at the moment but will fall sharply down our form rankings after the next gameweek once his 10 rated performance against Liverpool is no longer one of his last six appearances. As of now, however, Grealish has played a direct hand in eight goals in his last six.
2) Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 7.96 form rating
It was Bruno Fernandes that once again bailed Manchester United out at the weekend, as his penalty was the difference at home to West Brom. Fernandes has climbed four places in our top 10 as a result, with seven goals and assists in his last six Premier League appearances for the Red Devils. Moreover, he has picked up back-to-back WhoScored Man of the Match awards in the Premier League after picking up none in his first six league games this season.
Next Opponent: Southampton (A)
1) Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 8.22 form rating
It is no surprise to learn Harry Kane remains the most in-form player in the Premier League for the fourth week running. Kane remarkably picked up his ninth assist of the season at the weekend as Tottenham beat Manchester City 2-0. The England captain has scored or assisted, sometime both, in each of his last six Premier League appearances, managing a direct hand in 10 goals in that time. His form rating has dipped compared to last week but he remains some way ahead in first.
