European Team of the Season: Left wing - Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Despite being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid all season, Eden Hazard has been a pillar of consistency for Chelsea. Without the Belgium international, Chelsea would not have finished in the top four and on Wednesday night he has the chance to win the Blues the Europa League in what will likely prove his final game for the club.

Maurizio Sarri’s first year in charge of Chelsea has been turbulent to say the least but he has got the best out of Hazard. The 28-year-old finished the 2018/19 campaign with more goals and assists combined (31) than any other player in the Premier League. He was the first player to register double figures for goals and assists in the Premier League and finished the season with more assists (15) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

Only Lionel Messi (17) won more WhoScored Man of the Match awards than Hazard (14) in Europe’s top five leagues this season, while the Chelsea ace also ranked in the top three for dribbles completed on the continent (137). Hazard’s breathtaking form dates back to the 2018 World Cup and he is more than worthy of a move to Madrid.
