European Team of the Week: Coutinho beats Neymar to star man award

38-year-old Gianluca Pegolo made his first appearance of the season in Sassuolo's encounter with AC Milan at the weekend and it was a day to remember for the veteran, as he took home the WhoScored Man of the Match award from the 0-0 draw. Pegolo made eight saves to earn an unlikely point for Sassuolo in Milan. 

 

Right-back: Takehiro Tomiyasu (Bologna) - 8.13 rating

 

Bologna pulled off a shock 2-1 victory at home to Atalanta at the weekend, with right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu providing the assist for proved to be the match winner. In addition to his assist, Tomiyasu also made six tackles and interceptions combined and seven clearances to earn the WhoScored Man of the Match award.

 

Centre-back: Sebastiaan Bornauw (FC Koeln) - 8.39 rating

FC Koeln moved off the foot of the table with a surprise 2-0 win at home to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, with young cenre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw taking all the plaudits. The 20-year-old wrapped up all three points for his side with a late header from a set-piece.

 

Centre-back: Dan-Axel Zagadou (Borussia Dortmund) - 8.54 rating

Dan-Axel Zagadou is in the best rated XI for the second week running after turning in another eye-catching display for Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old registered a hugely impressive assist, which featured a driving run from deep, and made six clearances to help Dortmund to a 4-0 win at Mainx.

 

Left-back: Robert Skov (Hoffenheim) - 8.71 rating

Hoffenheim fell to a disappointing 4-2 defeat at home to Augsburg, but it wasn't for a lack of trying on Robert Skov's behalf. The 23-year-old played a direct hand in both of Hoffenheim's goals (one assist, one goal). Moreover, Skov had five shots in total, completed 90.9% of his passes and made five successful dribbles from left-back.

Right wing: Renato Sanches (Lille) - 9.12 rating

Renato Sanches' return from injury has been a huge boost for Lille in the last month and the former Bayern Munich midfielder claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award at the weekend in a 2-1 win over Montpellier. Sanches scored the match winner with six minutes of normal time remaining and impressively completed 10 dribbles.

 

Central midfield: Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain) - 10 rating

Neymar's rating was boosted to a perfect 10 after Leandro Paredes goal was later credited to the Brazilian. The Brazil international missed a penalty in Paris Saint-Germain's 4-0 win at Saint-Etienne but made up for that with two assists. He has now won the WhoScored Man of the Match award in three straight appearances and has recorded successive perfect 10 ratings in all competitions.

 

Central midfield: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 9.04 rating

Philippe Coutinho edges his Brazilian team-mate, Neymar, to the player of the week award in Europe's top five leagues after playing a direct hand in five of the six goals Bayern Munich scored against Werder Bremen on Saturday. Coutinho scored his first hat-trick since the middle of last year and also registered two assists in a mesmerising performance for the Bundesliga giants.

Augsburg stretchered their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga to five matches with a hugely impressive 4-2 win away to Hoffenheim, with star man Florian Niederlechner once again playing an integral role. The 29-year-old registered a hat-trick of assists in the victory and has now played a direct hand in seven goals in his last four matches.
