Premier League team news and prediction: Man Utd vs Chelsea

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Frank Lampard will renew rivalries when Manchester United host Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.

The two sides faced off four times last season, with United running out winners on three occasions. United also beat Chelsea to third place in the Premier League.

While the Blues responded with one of the most extraordinary summer transfer windows ever seen, United became a laughing stock.

It hasn't been smooth sailing for either manager so far this season, however, and both could desperately do with a win on Saturday to help kick their campaign in the right direction.

In the build up to their encounter, we have all your need-to-know information in one place, including team news, where you can watch the game and probable XIs.

The season so far

Neither manager will be particularly chuffed with how the season has gone. Manchester United have won two and lost two of their opening four Premier League matches. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have remarkably lost both league matches at Old Trafford this season and are already seven points off top spot heading into the weekend, albeit with a game in hand. United will feel more confident heading into Saturday's contest after an impressive 2-1 win away to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have only won two of their opening five league matches and have already drawn two games 3-3. Frank Lampard's side did at least show they can defend with a 0-0 draw against Europa League champions Sevilla in the midweek Champions League action. It's already apparent Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy are crucial for Chelsea at the back, with two clean sheets in the games they have started together.

Team News

There is plenty to ponder for Solskjaer this weekend. After pocketing Kylian Mbappe on his first appearance in 10 months, Axel Tuanzebe should be the first name down in defence. Luke Shaw also impressed as a third centre-back, with Alex Telles offering encouraging signs on debut at left wing-back. Captain Harry Maguire, who remains a slight doubt, now has a fight to reclaim his place. Scott McTominay and Fred vindicated their place in midfield in the win over PSG, selected over Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, but will the latter continue to be snubbed for big matches? Solskjaer has refuted suggestions Mason Greenwood has been disciplined by the club but he remains doubtful with an undisclosed injury. With Anthony Martial suspended and Edinson Cavani still not match fit, United could desperately do with Greenwood up front alongside man of the moment Marcus Rashford.

It's not quite as hectic for Chelsea. Kepa is out with a shoulder injury but wouldn't have started here anyway now Edouard Mendy is back fit. Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic are also available this weekend giving Frank Lampard a near full strength squad. Kurt Zouma is expected to be selected over Andreas Christensen to cope with United's pace up front, while Timo Werner is expecte to lead the line ahead of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Pulisic.

Key Battle: Alex Telles vs Ben Chilwell

Premier League team news and prediction: Man Utd vs Chelsea

United and Chelsea both sought upgrades on their left-back options over the summer with the former pinching Alex Telles from FC Porto on the cheap and the latter spending big to prise Ben Chilwell from rivals Leicester. Both have made encouraging starts to life at their new clubs, with Chilwell further along after joining Chelsea well before United got a deal over the line for Telles.

Chilwell has had just the impact Frank Lampard would have wanted, with at least one direct goal contribution in each of his first two league appearances. The England international scored and assisted on his Chelsea debut before supplying an assist in his second outing. Chilwell managed six goals and assists in 27 league appearances for Leicester last season and is already half way there with Chelsea in just two games.

United supporters had to wait a little longer to see Telles in action after the Brazil international made his debut in Wednesday's 2-1 win over PSG. Not everything came off for the 27-year-old but he certainly showed flashes of his potential. United almost scored from two of his corners and it's clear his crossing will only make Solskjaer's side more dangerous going forward. He will certainly offer more than Luke Shaw going forward.
