Top transfer round-up: Deadline day: Barcelona, Arsenal and Newcastle make last-ditch signings

Former West Ham defender moves to Fulham

Fulham announced the surprise arrival of Havard Nordtveit from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on loan for the remainder of the season

Nordtveit endured a nightmare season spell at West Ham 18 months ago but has returned to the Premier League to help add experience to Fulham’s backline.

The 28-year-old only finished on the winning team in two of his 11 Premier League starts for West Ham during the 2016/17 campaign.

Aston Villa sign Caen defender

Aston Villa have signed Caen defender Frederic Guilbert and loaned the 24-year-old back to the French side for the rest of the season.

Dean Smith’s side bolstered their defensive options for the remainder of the season with the loan signing of Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings on deadline day.

However, they also have one eye on next season by securing Guilbert’s services on a long-term deal. Only two players have made more tackles than Guilbert (63) in Ligue 1 this season.

Barcelona accelerate deal for Toulouse defender

Barcelona have announced the arrival of Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo six months ahead of schedule.

The Spanish side agreed a pre-contract agreement with Todibo at the start of the month for when his contract expires in the summer.

However, Barcelona have reportedly paid €2m to sign the 19-year-old this month.

Leicester confirm Tielemans from Monaco

Leicester have confirmed Youri Tielemans’ arrival from Monaco with Adrien Silva moving in the opposite direction.

Tielemans arrives on loan for the remainder of the season without an option to buy after immediately being transfer listed by Monaco in the wake of Leonardo Jardim’s return to the club.

Only Lyon starlet Houssem Aouar (6) has scored more goals than Tielemans (5) of central midfielders in Ligue 1 this season

Barcelona sign Brazilian defender

Barcelona have signed Atletico Mineiro right-back Emerson and immediately loaned him to Real Betis for the remainder of the season.

Of the 92 players aged 21 and under in last season’s Brasileirao campaign, only one player completed more interceptions than Emerson (51).

English duo complete Bundesliga moves

Arsenal teenager Emile Smith-Rowe has joined RB Leipzig on loan for the remainder of the season, while Reece Oxford has left West Ham for Augsburg on a short-term loan deal.

Leipzig have moved for Smith-Rowe after conceding defeat in their pursuit of Everton youngster Ademola Lookman, while Oxford returns to the Bundesliga after a loan spell at Gladbach last season.

Galatasaray land Super Lig’s top scorer

Galatasaray have sent a major statement of intent out to their league rivals by signing Mbaye Diagne from Kasimpasa.

The defending Super Lig champions are six points behind Istanbul Basaksehir but will now hope to claw back some ground following Diagne’s arrival.

The Senegal international has scored at least 11 more goals than any other player in the division this season (20) and netted more times than six teams.

Monaco sign Tottenham outcast

Georges-Kevin Nkoudou has left Tottenham to join Monaco on loan for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old has returned to France in a bid to kickstart his career after failing to make any impression at Tottenham.

Monaco do not have an option to buy Nkoudou and the pacey winger will return to Tottenham at the end of the season.

Of players to have made at least 15 appearances in the Premier League since August 2016, only three players required fewer minutes per dribble than Nkoudou (every 19.3 minutes).

Newcastle break their club transfer record

Newcastle have broken their 15-year transfer record after announcing the arrival of Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United in a deal worth more than £20m.

Almiron helped Atlanta win MLS last season and has now secured a high-profile move to the Premier League on a five-and-a-half-year deal with Newcastle.

Only Sebastian Blanco (19) created more clear-cut goalscoring chances than the 25-year-old (17) in MLS last season (including playoffs).

Aston Villa sign Bournemouth defender

Aston Villa have bolstered their defensive options with the acquisition of Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings until the end of the season.

Bournemouth have sanctioned Mings’ departure in the wake of Chris Mepham’s arrival and Villa have fended off competition from their Championship rivals for his signature.

The 25-year-old has only made 10 Premier League starts for Bournemouth since joining from Ipswich in 2015 for a then-club-record deal.

Newcastle sign Monaco left-back

Newcastle have finally solved their issue at left-back with the signing of Monaco defender Antonio Barreca on loan for the remainder of the season.

After a deal fell through for Lazio’s Jordan Lukaku, Rafa Benitez’s side moved for Barreca, who only joined Monaco last summer.

The 23-year-old finished on the winning side in just one of his seven league appearances for Monaco and garnered a WhoScored rating of just 4.89 on his only Champions League appearance.

Arsenal sign Barcelona outcast

Arsenal have bolstered their midfield options by signing Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona for the remainder of the season.

Suarez penned a 12-month contract extension with Barcelona before completing a move to Arsenal, who have an option to buy in the summer.

The Spaniard pushed to reunite with Arsenal manager Unai Emery after their stint together at Sevilla.

Wolves sign Jonny on permanent deal

Wolves have equalled their club transfer record to sign Jonny from Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

Jonny joined Wolves on a season-long loan deal last summer but has emerged as one of Nuno’s best players.

The newly promoted side have acted quickly to secure his long-term future on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Jonny has started 20 Premier League games for Wolves this season and no team-mate averages more interceptions per game than the 24-year-old (2.1).
