Leicester manager welcomes speculation for players

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri says he is happy with speculation linking his players to some of the best clubs in Europe.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly tracking the progress of Riyad Mahrez, whereas Jamie Vardy has impressed everyone with his rise to the top.

Managers would usually be concerned with reports linking their best players away, however Ranieri only sees it as a good thing for his side.

“It’s good because that means we have very good players,” Ranieri is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. “One week it’s Vardy, the next week it’s Mahrez but it is only speculation.

“Riyad is very happy with us. He signed a new contract and the same with Jamie.”

Vardy, 28, has scored in each of his last eight Premier League matches and is now only two matches behind Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record. In fact, only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski (both 13) have scored more goals than Vardy across Europe’s top five leagues.

As for Mahrez, only Neymar (8.50) and Lionel Messi (8.44) have garnered a higher WhoScored rating than the Algerian international this season (8.29) across Europe’s best leagues.
