Gareth Southgate is set to reward Joe Gomez’s impressive start to the season with Liverpool with an England recall, claims The Daily Mail.
Gomez missed out on England’s 2018 World Cup squad with an ankle injury and hasn’t featured for the Three Lions since a 10-minute cameo against Holland in March.
The 21-year-old has barely put a foot wrong for Liverpool this season and appears to have already formed a solid partnership alongside Virgil Van Dijk.
Gomez has started Liverpool’s opening two Premier League matches and Jurgen Klopp’s side are the only side left in the division yet to concede this season.
England are due to play Spain in their first UEFA Nations League match at the start of September before facing Switzerland in a friendly three days later.
Gary Cahill is yet to feature for Chelsea this season and could well miss out on a spot in Southgate’s squad for England’s upcoming matches.
Since the start of last season, Liverpool have a better win ratio in the Premier League when Gomez has started (60.9%) compared to when he has not featured from the off (52.9%).
