Newcastle manager open to offers following transfer market woes

Rafa Benitez is open to offers from other clubs after losing faith in Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, reports The Guardian.

Newcastle failed to make any signings on deadline day to compound a disastrous recruitment drive from the newly promoted Premier League outfit.

Benitez agreed to stay on as Newcastle manager at the end of last season after being given assurances about transfers, but they have failed to materialise.

The 57-year-old will not walk away from St. James’ Park but is so angry with Ashley’s regime that he would consider approaches from similarly-sized Premier League clubs.

West Ham were close to appointing Benitez as their new manager two years ago, only for Real Madrid to prise him back to Spain with a shock late move for the former Liverpool boss.

With Slaven Bilic reportedly under pressure, Benitez could be an option for the Hammers, while Crystal Palace are also sounding out replacements for Frank de Boer after just four matches.

Since becoming Newcastle boss in March 2016, Benitez has won more than half (55.2%) of his matches in charge of the Magpies.
