Real Madrid confirm extent of Hazard injury

Real Madrid have confirmed that Eden Hazard suffered an ankle fracture on Saturday night.

The Belgian was forced off midway through the second half of their 1-0 loss at Levante as Los Blancos lost ground in the title race.

Real Madrid now sit two points behind Barcelona, who secured a resounding 5-0 home win over Eibar earlier in the day.

It was a pivotal day in the LaLiga title race ahead of El Clasico next weekend, a match that Hazard will miss, along with Real Madrid's Champions League tie with Manchester City in midweek.

"Following the tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to his right distal fibula," a statement read on the club's official website.

"His recovery will continue to be assessed."
