Arsenal face competition from Liverpool for Spanish midfielder
Liverpool are prepared to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, reports FootballTransfers.
Arsenal are long-term admirers of the player and are believed to be preparing an offer for the midfielder this summer.
However, they'd face competition from Liverpool for the 25-year-old, who has returned a WhoScored rating of 6.93 for La Real in La Liga this season.
The Reds are reportedly willing to pay the £51m release clause to secure the Real Sociedad midfielder as they seek to continue their midfield overhaul.
Liverpool spent big to sign the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo last summer.
Mac Allister has impressed as the deepest lying midfielder but the Argentine is unlikely to have a long-term future in the role with the 2022 World Cup winner better suited operating further foward.
Endo, meanwhile, has also exceeded expectations on Merseyside this season but the Japan international turns 31 next month.
With Thiago again injured following a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Reds are aware they need to add another body in the middle of the park, with Zubimendi emerging as a potential target to help replace his compatriot.
Arsenal would undoubtedly rivals Liverpool in any race to sign the Spaniard as they look to strengthen in the middle of the park.
