Man City and Burnley trios dominate Premier League Team of the Week

 

Liverpool lost further ground in the Premier League title race as they lost 3-1 at Leicester in Saturday's early kick off. Combined with Manchester City's 3-0 win over Tottenham, the defending champions are now 13 points off Pep Guardiola's side, who, along with Burnley, dominate the Premier League team of the week. 

 

Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) - 9.03 

 

Another week, another clean sheet for Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine earned his 12th clean sheet of the season in Aston Villa's 0-0 draw at Brighton on Saturday night. Dean Smith's side weren't at their best at the AMEX, but Martinez was excellent as the last line of defence, making nine saves in all to feature with a WhoScored rating of 9.03. 

 

Matthew Lowton (Burnley) - 9.41 

 

The first of three Burnley players in the best XI is the Premier League player of the week. Matthew Lowton was exceptional for the Clarets at Crystal Palace as the right-back bagged his first goal of the season, hitting the back of the net with one of three shots. Lowton liked to do things in threes at Selhurst Park as he managed three key passes, three successful dribbles, three tackles and three interceptions to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 9.41. 

 

Issa Diop (West Ham) - 7.74 

 

West Ham remain outside of the top four on goal difference only on the back of their 3-0 win over Sheffield United on Monday evening. Centre-back Issa Diop is the first of two West Ham players in the team of the week after a solid rearguard showing at the London Stadium. The Frenchman kept the Blades offensive at bay as he made four clearances and two tackles, while at the other end of the pitch, Diop scored his first league goal of the campaign and he makes the XI as with a WhoScored rating of 7.74. 

 

Aaron Cresswell (West Ham) - 7.65 

 

It's an all-West Ham centre-back partnership in the team of the week with Aaron Cresswell joining Diop at the heart of the defence. The former provided the assist for the latter to hit the back of the net in east London, that coming from one of two key passes. Three clearancres, one tackle and one aerial duel won helped Cresswell to a WhoScored rating of 7.65. 

 

Oleksandr Zinchenko (Manchester City) - 7.79 

 

Rounding off the backline is the first of three Manchester City players in the team of the week. Pep Guardiola's side maintained their exceptional winning run with a 3-0 victory over an out-of-sorts Tottenham with Oleksandr Zinchenko defensively sound. The Ukrainian made seven tackles in the win to contribute towards his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.79. 

 

Johann Gudmundsson (Burnley) - 7.89 

 

Johann Gudmundsson scored his second goal in as many league games in Burnley's 3-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Icelandic winger found a way past Vicente with one of three shots in south London. Off the ball, Gudmundsson shielded Lowton well down the right as he made two interceptions and one tackle to return a WhoScored rating of 7.89.

Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester) - 9.04 

 

Leicester piled further misery upon this downtrodden Liverpool side with a fine 3-1 win over the defending champions on Saturday. Wilfred Ndidi ran the show in midfield, as noted in his WhoScored rating of 9.04. The Nigerian provided the assist for Harvey Barnes' late strike, that his first of the season and coming from one of two key passes. Out of possession, Ndidi was superb as he made five clearances, five tackles and three interceptions to nail down a central midfield spot. 

 

Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City) - 8.83 

 

Partnering Ndidi in the middle of the park, Ilkay Gundogan continued his unbelievable goalscoring run with a brace in Manchester City's 3-0 win over Tottenham. The midfielder netted with two of four shots, while an additional key pass saw the German yield a WhoScored rating of 8.83 from Saturday's routine victory. 

 

Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) - 8.44 

 

Finishing off the Manchester City contingent is winger Raheem Sterling, who notched his fifth league assist of the campaign against Tottenham. The winger set up Gundogan for the first of his two goals, that coming from one of three key passes, while four successful dribbles helped Sterling to a WhoScored rating of 8.44. 

 

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) - 9.31 

 

The sole Arsenal star in the Premier League team of the week is captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gunners secured a fine 4-2 win over Leeds over the weekend with Aubameyang netting his first Premier League hat-trick of his career against the Whites. The trio of goals came from five shots in all and the Gabon international was unfortunate not to grab an assist, too, as he made two key passes to land a WhoScored rating of 9.31. 

 

Jay Rodriguez (Burnley) - 8.62 

 

Jay Rodriguez completes the team of the week as he scored his first goal and provided his first assist in the Premier League this season in Burnley's 3-0 win at Crystal Palace. That goal came from four shots and assist from one key pass with Rodriguez good value for his WhoScored rating of 8.62.
