Odegaard leads Arsenal quartet in Premier League Team of the Week

 

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are the dominant side in this week’s Premier League best XI, while players from Crystal Palace, West Ham, Luton Town, Newcastle and Aston Villa also make the cut. 

 

David Raya (Arsenal) - 7.46 

 

Mikel Arteta’s new number one has made a strong start to life between the sticks for the Gunners, and it continued at Bournemouth on Saturday. The 28-year-old kept his second clean sheet in three matches while making three claims and maintaining a pass success rate of 86.5%. 

 

Ben White (Arsenal) - 8.48 

 

Ben White produced his best performance of the season so far in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over the Cherries. The right-back made four tackles, two interceptions and four clearances, before adding his side’s fourth goal of the afternoon in stoppage time, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.48. 

 

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) - 8.68 

 

Danish centre-back Joachim Andersen picked up his third player of the match award in just seven games in the Eagles’ victory at Old Trafford on Saturday. Andersen’s first half strike was enough to seal all three points for Roy Hodgson’s team. The 27-year-old also ensured that a clean sheet remained intact, making three tackles and interceptions combined, as well as 10 clearances. 

 

Nayef Aguerd (West Ham) - 7.77 

 

Morocco international Nayef Aguerd is the first of two inclusions for West Ham in this week’s XI. The centre-back came up with his best performance so far this term, with a tackle, two interceptions, three clearances, five blocks and an impressive pass success rate of 91.7% all contributing to a WhoScored rating of 7.77. 

 

Alfie Doughty (Luton Town) - 8.13 

 

Luton Town picked up their first ever Premier League win at Everton's expense on Saturday, and wing-back Alfie Doughty was the standout performer. Doughty provided the assist for Carlton Morris to double the away side’s lead in the first half, while also making six key passes and four clearances, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.13.

Martin Ødegaard (Arsenal) - 8.72 

 

After going two games without contributing to a goal, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard was involved in two of the four Arsenal put past Bournemouth at the weekend. The Norwegian converted a first half penalty to double the Gunners’ lead, before turning provider for Ben White late in the second half. Odegaard also made three key passes and recorded a pass success rate of 88.7%, to land a WhoScored rating of 8.72, his best display so far this season. 

 

Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle) - 8.17 

 

Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes makes it successive weeks in the WhoScored best XI after his performance in the Magpies’ 2-0 home victory over Burnley. The Brazil international made seven tackles and interceptions at the heart of midfield, along with five key passes and two successful dribbles to return a WhoScored rating of 8.17. 

 

James Ward-Prowse (West Ham) - 8.43 

 

Former Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is proving one of the signings of the summer given his instant impact under David Moyes, and despite not registering a goal contribution, his performance in the 2-0 win over Sheffield United is his highest rated yet. The 28-year-old recorded a pass success rate of 94.9%, while also making three tackles and interceptions combined and six key passes, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.43. 

 

John McGinn (Aston Villa) - 8.46 

 

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa produced the result of the weekend at home to Brighton on Saturday, and Scotland international John McGinn’s display against the Seagulls earns him a spot in this week’s XI. McGinn provided the asset for Ollie Watkins to complete his hat-trick in the second half, while also making five tackles and three key passes, to register a WhoScored rating of 8.46. 

 

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) - 10.0 

 

With a perfect 10 rating, Ollie Watkins is the Premier League player of the week. The 27-year-old striker produced the best individual performance so far this season against Brighton, netting a hat-trick before providing the assist for Jacob Ramsey’s 85th minute strike. Watkins also made five key passes and two successful dribbles in what was a sensational display. 

 

Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) - 8.04 

 

Rounding off this week’s XI is Arsenal attacker Gabriel Jesus, who completes a quartet of representatives from the north London side. The Brazilian made three key passes, completed three successful dribbles and was fouled four times on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.04.
